    BIAB with tap water

I thought above giving the RV filter a try as well. I am brewing an oatmeal stout this weekend.

    BIAB with tap water

Yeah, I did not want to install RO either, kind of a logistical PITA the way my basement is set up. When I started with distilled it was $.79/Gallon, now its over $1.25. There is actually a Culligan around the corner from my house and the guy across the street works there. I'll have to have...

    BIAB with tap water

Anyone brewing with straight tap water with success, no adjustments other than maybe a campden tablet? I brewed with tap water for years outside with a cooler and pot before moving inside with the Anvil 2 years ago. No adjustments to water (local water report is incomplete for brewing...

    Homebrewer/….dad?!

This is how my wife and I handled it. Still do. Kids are a bit older now (13 and 9) so it is much easier now.

Is my new Keezer operating properly?

I meant to say that the can I have the probe attached to does not have insulation around it. If not sticking the probe into liquid, I suppose I could put a beer koozy on it to keep it "insulated"

Is my new Keezer operating properly?

In my kegerator, I have my inkbird probe banded to a can of beer, in the back of the kegerator, next to the complessor hump. Not insulated. My kegerator, Its a Haier (not sure what model, its been too long) with a backplate and the inkbird is set for 36 degrees, with a 4 degree rise...

    Hop spiders and filters

Another thing to add......When I was brewing on my outdoor system (10 gallon kettle), I used the same thing above. Started with PVC, then bought a stainless steel ring. Now with the Anvil, the paint strainer bag will almost fit over the top. I just secure it to the top of the boiler with 3...

    Hop spiders and filters

5 Gallon paint strainer bags cost $2.50 each and can be used up until they rip. I have gotten 15 plus brews our of 1 bag. You also get more fluid flow through the bag than any stainless spider on the market.

    Homebrewer/….dad?!

I didn't start brewing until my wife was pregnant.....it was actually her idea. Its all about planning. Could I brew when ever I wanted to? No......but I got it done.

Use of maltodextrin in all grain beer

I have only used maltodextrin once, and that was post fermentation directly into the keg. My first all grain batch ever, an oatmeal stout that mashed too low and came out kind of thin. Definitely helped with the mouthfeel.

    Fermentation Chamber Build Question

So after 13 years, I'm finally going to build a fermentation chamber out of an older mini-fridge with a collar added to the front or my current kegerator when I upgrade it. Aside from a temperature controller, do I need to run a heat source in it? It will be in my basement where ambient is...

KVEIK: worthy of being a house strain?

I have only used the Lalbrew Voss Kveik in a handful of beers, either pale ale or IPA. All the beers came out decent, but all had that signature over bearing citrus note. I now only use that yeast in the dead of summer. Although I have been wanting to try it on a darker non hop forward beer.

how many Corny kegs will a 5lb tank do?

I once got 11 kegs out of a 5lb tank. That included carbing and serving.

    Nottingham underattenuation issues

I think you fermented this a bit on the cooler side. Maybe raise the temp to 20c (68f)? This might help you gain a few points

Question for the cheapskates out there using plain old buckets for fermenting

Just buy a bottling bucket and put a lid on it.......no? I actually replaced the spigot on my fermonster with the one for a bottling bucket. Just felt better then the original one.

    CO2 refill way overpriced?

Most places here will only do exchange. Those are usually $25 for 5lb tank.

Used dried Voss today for the first time

For whatever reason, I was thinking of this. https://www.morebeer.com/products/monstermesh-strainer-fermmonster-carboys.html Same in theory but different materials.

Used dried Voss today for the first time

What is thoughts on the Depth Charge? Is it worth the purchase? I aslo assume that the filter is re-usable?

    Defrosting Kegerator Question

I'm going to empty it and bring it outside to thaw with the door open first thing on Saturday morning and see how it goes throughout the day. I'm going to angle it forward so all the water goes out the door.

    Defrosting Kegerator Question

Oh no no. I wouldn't do that. Like I said, I have used a hair dryer before, just wanted to see if I could speed up the process at all, since its not as warm out. I empty the kegerator and wheel it outside to defrost (with and without using the hair dryer.)
