    Do I Need A New Mill?

    The hopper on my barley crusher drops the grain into the rollers easily a 1/2” away from the roller ends. The hopper comes to within a 1/4” of the rollers so there is no way whole kernels can bypass the gap. I think this might be where your problem is , post a pic of your mill.

    I used this method this morning to brew a Blonde Ale , worked great. So the terminology for this method is underletting? I added 4 degrees to my strike water and hit my mash temperature dead on , if it had been a little high , stirring could cool it down .

    Grist hydration

    Grampamark, with only stirring for 20-30 seconds, are the temperatures throughout the mash tun even ? I’m thinking that the temperature would tend to be warmer towards the bottom of the mash tun .

    I usually mash at 153-154 but after 60 minutes I would be down to about 148-149. So staying closer to the 153 mark would give the. Glucoamylase something more to work on and thus burn itself out ?

    I have not used any glucoamylase as of yet, I want a little more dryness in my beers , but not 1.000 dry . I would be putting it in when I pitch the yeast for the same reason you stated. Only place I can find it is online , my LHBS is not local anymore since we moved an hr south of civilization...

    My beers usually end up at about .010 to .015 , if I used 1/2 tsp for 10 gallons, would that bring me down to about .005 to .008?
