Komos Kegerator Bites The Dust at 14 months

This is why I took an entire year off of brewing while I waited for a kegerator deal. I might be too cheap for some people but I managed to get maybe $1,250 worth of gear for $125 because the guy was moving. He was only 30 minutes away too. To me buying a kegerator is automatically a sunk cost...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I have my sample port on the top middle port. If you're doing 5 gallon batches you have to be really pushing it with the trub calculation. I'm not sure even 5.5 gallons would be sufficient to get a tiny sample from it in that port. As much as I like variety I like making the best I can, so I...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I've seen you quite a bit on the forums so I know I'm not as well versed as you, but why isn't it clean exactly? The yeast/hops from fermentation? Just not sure I understand. From a racking arm in the sample port, maybe you could use a valve with the sight glass? Edit: I guess the above...

Grain to Glass Time with Closed Pressure Transfer

Hello, I just finished my first beer after about a year off. I had to adapt my super cheap ($125) kegerator score from Craigslist to fit corny kegs. The grain that sat was infested with buggy-bois but I carried on as recommended here. During my first ever cold crash, I made the severe mistake...

    Sanke kegerator with corny keg...

Just finished up every step of my first keg, for those of you who have been following, it was a bug beer. Lots of tiny bugs in the grain after I finished mashing. I did it all any way! I closed pressure transferred for the first time smoothly, I carbonated the beer, then I went to tap it and...

    Spike Force Carb/Closed Transfer

I just can’t afford that. I’d rather DIY a glycol chiller with a $50-$100 used AC unit than save up to drop $1,000 or more on a pro version. I will test the $4 solution for now with as little water as the pump can manage.

    Spike Force Carb/Closed Transfer

Sorry, I should've specified I wasn't going to carb at 15psi, lol. Just didn't know if those reading knew it capped at 15 psi. I checked out their carb chart and the Spike range being below 15 definitely favors colder temps. I will have to try I will have to buy some 2 liter bottles and...

    Spike Force Carb/Closed Transfer

About to transfer my bug beer after a year long brew hiatus with all the new QOL materials I've gained. First thing is first. I don't have a glycol chiller, I use a cooler with ice for temp control in my conical. That means cold crashing for many days is a bit difficult. Am I able to force carb...

    Devising Organic Recipes

Hello all, I would like some help determining recipes using only organic ingredients I can find. I'm not asking you to do my homework, but I also don't feel like wasting my money doing what I think would work well and it being some yuck. So, here's the list. Hops (not much) : Williamette...

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

it was unbelievably active. the airlock hose was like a motorboat at 68-69F.

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

I’ve concluded there’s nothing wrong with it other than my own strange feelings about it and it would be a shame to waste. I boiled for almost 2 hours. Many have mentioned the disgusting things we eat from mass manufactured food product.

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

I expected nothing less from a lizard that brews beer on an island!

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

this is 9lb from a recipe kit. No more left. I look at all the grains, I double milled it. I swear I didn’t see a thing and then bam! Floaters.

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

“Delicious aged grains, inoculated with scrumptious weevils that deepen the flavor over time. Killed with low heat to harvest their fear and adrenaline, then simmered to perfection with infested aphid-hops.”

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

As mentioned I’m vegan, I didn’t feel like bringing it up to avoid argument (though I also said I’m a raised bed farmer and kill critters daily) but I do collect many cookbooks. One is called Oaxaca from a famous restaurant in the US. Apparently she ate grasshoppers growing up like popcorn...

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

Nope no more grains. This is the only remnant from pre-kegging. I’m switching to all organic brewing, there are only 2 hops available on Etsy and a number of grains so I am a bit limited but I’ll have to come up with my own grain bills… that will be for another thread! I hate to bring up the V...

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

I buy everything as needed too but this was a recipe I purchased right before my hiatus as stated. So yes I agree. I just pulled the bag, not really a remnant of bug. Smells delicious so it’s not rancid.
