    Wind damaged hop leaves

Yeah the wind has been nuts here too in CT. Suppose to stop tomorrow but its going to be below freezing here tomorrow morning... I hope that does anger my hops too much. Though I know it has froze out since I planted in March not sure if it has since they been up though. This is my first time...

    new mash turn problem

I just thought that I would let everyone know I made a new batch and got a 75% efficiency (up from 55% last time) with this mash turn :) The changes that I made were: 1. I shortened the metal mesh hoses so that they ran straightfrom end to end and didn't have to curve. 2. I shortened the "T"...

    Gravity Question

No the wort was in the fermentor for both those volumes given. I have it marked ever half gallon that's have i estimated my volumes. I guess I didn't trust it because it was not telling me what i expected it too. All my conversion numbers came from my book How to Brew by John Palmer...

    Gravity Question

Well not as confident as I was originally lol. The only reading I took more than once was the last one. But I thought the only ones were fine. I was all happy with my 75% I made some adjustments to my mash and lautering and 75% was quite an imporvment for me I was in the high 60's before.

    Gravity Question

So about a week ago I made NB AG Lefse Blond Kit I've never made one of there kits so I am excited to see how it turns out. I am confused about my final gravity I got. So I am going to show what I got step by step. The kit has 8.75 lbs. Belgian Pilsner malt (36 GP), 0.25 lbs. Briess Caramel...

    orange blossom allergies?

No its only oranges its not like lemons or grapefruits. So she is not sensitive to citrus. I think asking a doctor would be the best idea too i just thought I would throw it out there.

    Hard Ice Tea

One last possible useful piece of info it took 5 hours for the ice tea at 5% ABV to start freezing in my freezer which is at 12 degrees F.

    Hard Ice Tea

Well if anyone is still interested I thought I might as well share my final results of this experiment. Just took my own notes and added to them for this post. 3/25/10 For easy and time sake I transferred all the tea into an ale pail. Instead of separated secondary jugs with different...

    new mash turn problem

The ends are actually closed I folded them over and stapled them with a staple gun. Pretty positive nothing is getting in there. I also had them taped down at the ends with duct tape when I used it, not sure how healthy that was but it held them in place.

    Hard Ice Tea

Well I just thought I would give an update on this. Visual active fermentation has been up for about 2 days now. So I took a gravity reading tonight, and got 0.999 (about 5.0% ABV). I also wanted to try my sample obviously so I did and it was very bitter so I sweetened it up putting in a...

    new mash turn problem

After it was almost completely done lautering the first time though I poured all the wort back though the grain bed a second time to try and remove some of the sediment. I forgot about that until you said something this was almost a month ago. I don't know if that made any difference or not...

    new mash turn problem

A few weeks ago I made a new mash turn that I thought was going to be a great upgrade for me. I went from a 5 gallon round cooler to a 40 qt. rectangular one. I used a braided stainless steel hose casing cut in half as the false bottom I guess you would call it. See picture below. In the 5...

    Hard Ice Tea

I am not sure when its all done fermenting I'll probably take a sample sweeten it up a little and decide if it needs more tea or lemon flavor and if it does add such in a secondary is defiantly a good idea or option at least.
