Good Idea to Dry Hop a Tripel IPA?

gotcha tripel IPA. thats very confusing. Anyway, I'm not saying dont use cascade, just that Cascade in combination with 1 or 2 other varieties would provide several layers of hop flavor, and give it a better aroma. But cascade by itself will be fine too. I would just toss the hops on top of...

Good Idea to Dry Hop a Tripel IPA?

I dont think you can brew a triple IPA without dry hopping. It just wouldnt have the huge hop aroma of the IIIPA style. Something like 3-5 oz (or more) for a 5-7 days should be fine. I would try something else with the cascade personally, but either way should be fine. And yes, dry hopping is...

I have a new favorite beer

This is about as light in color as you can get. Dortmunder is actually a style coming from a specific part of Germany. Its a blonde or pale lager. The beer is good though, easy drinking.

    Bell's Yeast Strain

FWIW, When I emailed Bell's about cloning Oberon and 2 hearted, they told me they use a house strain, the same yeast in nearly every beer except the lagers and specialties like Winter Ale etc. He also told me if I couldn't get their yeast, use WLP001 Cal Ale. I'm 99% sure its proprietary.

    Quick lemon zest question

I'm brewing a Oberon/sam summer clone today. Really its Oberon with the zest of 1 lemon added for a light citrus flavor. I added the zest at flameout. I've been straining my beers recently, but am wondering if I will lose the lemon flavor if I strain this. I only have 1 oz hops in so straining...

Competition Category - time for a vote

Is the extra bitterness noticeable? Im no comp expert but if not the judges won't know the IBU's, so 14B might be better. I guess just whatever it tastes more like.

    First Recipe (Lime Mexican Lager)

No black patent, use Light DME, crystal 20L instead. Not a pound just like 4 oz. Make sure boiling before hops. Dude just use a pre-designed recipe.

    Partial Mash Citra Amarillo IPA

Is your beer more like Bud Light or Miller Lite?

Theres a part in Beer Wars that the lady does this. She is in a bar and finds people who are staunch Bud Light, Miller lite, Coors drinkers. She has them blindly taste each one of the three and asks them to pick out their beer. Obviously the movie doesnt show every test, but tons of them got it...

Do you do anything to make sure your OG does not go too high?

I get really good efficiency from Brewmasters. 80-85% usually. Although not the best idea, I have watered down with bottled water before, to get correct OG. This also means i get a larger batch for free

    Star-San = Major Carbanation Foamover?

I've had this gusher problem before and also noticed the trub issue. I remember reading about hop particles causing this possibly. I've never cold crashed so it could be your issue but it might not be. If the temp issue doesnt solve it you might want to look into straining the wort going into...

What is your all time favorite summer brew?

    Help! Wort Chiller failed!

next time just put pot in bathtub with cold water. 20 mins later, change water. 20 more mins and you should be in the 70's. I cool 5 gallons like this all the time. since theres so much water in the tub you dont have to change it very much.

    Peroni Clone

Is it really worth cloning? Try finding a heineken or Stella clone, should be close enough. And make sure to bottle w/ green bottles to get that skunky flavor.

    vienna as base malt

I just started drinking Yooper's fizzy yellow beer. WOW that beer is amazing. I used a lot of vienna, with a little 2-row, and some specialties. Cascade and Willamette mix for the hops. The vienna is a great change, extremely delicious.

    Trademark? Copyright? what?

Even if you do not apply for one, a trade name is yours as long as you are using it and can prove dates and such. The problem is you can't really "use" a beer brand without distributing and such which may be illegal. Is it really likely that someone would steal your name though?

price of beer: all grain vs. extract

Man some ppl pay way too much I guess? Beernik where do you get your stuff from? I brew 5 gallons for $10-$20, $10 being a 4% blonde, $20 for the 7.5 % and 8.5 hops IPA i just brewed. Brewmasters warehouse is a great place. I just order about 6 batches at a time to take advantage of flat rate...
