Chill haze in bottle conditioned beer

so did the last two batches (stirred in) turn out hazy or clear? Did you personally notice any difference?

Chill haze in bottle conditioned beer

No, no signs of infection. They taste fine and smell fine and all. FG was imo around 1.011 which was expected. Another thing I thought about was the removal of "protein foam" at around 80-90⁰ C when heating up to a boil. Some say it's not necessary, some say it is. I used to do it (remove the...

Chill haze in bottle conditioned beer

So I recently brewed myself a "pseudo" bohemian pilsener according to this recipe: Brewfather The beer is now bottled and has been bottle conditioning for soon 2,5 weeks. As you see from the recipe, I used Voss Kveik as my yeast (not sure if it makes any difference for the haze though?). At...

Pseudo Bohemian Pilsener - step mash and boil times?

Ok. Thanks! May give the mash steps a try :) Ok yea thanks. Your comment does not highly motivate me to go for US-05 at this temp, even if it may be overexaggerated "homebrew wisdom". I rather stick to something safe... That lutra pack, even though pricey, looks a lot more appealing now... :P I...

Pseudo Bohemian Pilsener - step mash and boil times?

Thanks for sharing! Does not seem to be too difficult... This may be a stupid question (I have never done a more advanced mash than a single temp), how long is mash out? I mean, I raise the temp to 78 C, but for how long do I hold it until I bring the wort to a boil? Again, sorry if this is a...

Pseudo Bohemian Pilsener - step mash and boil times?

Water report: https://www.turunseudunvesi.fi/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Turun-Halisista-lahtevan-veden-vedenlaatu_2021.pdf Unfortunately only in finnish. But the names are quite the same. Calcium seems to be 18 mg/L which I googled should be equivalent to 18ppm. I also always try to get...

Pseudo Bohemian Pilsener - step mash and boil times?

Ah, thanks for the explanation! We actually do have "very soft water" (very scentific I know...) here in our municipality, at least according to the authorities website. To be specific, it should on average be 2.9 °dH or 0.51 mmol/l. I am yet to get into water chemistry either way (besides using...

Pseudo Bohemian Pilsener - step mash and boil times?

Indeed. The blogs and whatnot do say that... I did actually ferment a lager yeast warm last year. Though not this warm. I fermented it at room temps, S-189 I recall, and it worked very well :) I had about a 12-24h lag though before the fermentation took of. I am a bit sceptical at using lager...

Pseudo Bohemian Pilsener - step mash and boil times?

Ok. Thanks for the tip. My temperatures may though be in the higher end for US-05 at least, but certainly not impossible. Thanks Alex for the tips on the single infusion. I am always for making my brew day easier :D What temp would you do for this malt for single infusion? 65 C? Starts to seem...

Pseudo Bohemian Pilsener - step mash and boil times?

Oh okay. I read that Weyermann malts overall are almost undermodified, but I guess the information out there is a bit conflicting. According to the floor-malted Bohemian sheet it is 36-55 Kolbach, though I don't know what that means but perhaps you do :) Any opinions on the mash schedule...

Pseudo Bohemian Pilsener - step mash and boil times?

I am planning to brew a "pseudo" Bohemian pilsener. I call it pseudo as I won't be doing any actual lagering, nor am I planning to ferment using lager yeast or at lager temps. My recipe is as follows: Brewfather I am mainly asking for advice on the choice of malt (Weyermann Floor malted...

Hitting my IBU target - Believe recipe or Brew Father?

Thanks guys. Seems like my problem here was mostly that I am European lol. I just tried inputting my recipe into brewersfriend in metric units, exactly as I had it in brewfather and indeed they do match up. Seems like they do calculate the IBUs in the same way. According to both, I will need...

Hitting my IBU target - Believe recipe or Brew Father?

@dmtaylor @BrewnWKopperKat Haha :) Honestly that is one me. I never considered that there were to kinds of gallons in existence... Very European mistake... :P Strangebrew looks interesting, Would you recommend it? Could give it a shot in place of brew father

Hitting my IBU target - Believe recipe or Brew Father?

Google tells me 5.5 gallons is 25L. I now realise this is obviously wrong... Maybe it uses some "Other gallon"... Can't get my head around the imperical system haha... Hence why I assumed these two were comparable. But bottom line, ye maybe you are right. I should give another calculator a try...

Hitting my IBU target - Believe recipe or Brew Father?

Hi guys. I have a brewday coming up on Friday and could use some input on this dilemma of mine. So I am brewing this simple Red Ale Recipe: Ruabeoir Red Ale I always input all the ingredients that I will use into brew father in order to get a good idea of if I am hitting the IBU targets...

    Brewdog Punk IPA Recipe Clone

@IslandLizard Thanks for your tips :) Yes I have looked at the prices quite a lot and done calculations, and funnily enough, the place from where I have now ordered the smaller hop bags do also have significantly lower prices per 100g. I believe in this case the 5€ shipping is worth it...

    Brewdog Punk IPA Recipe Clone

Got ya. I also love chinook so I hear you :) Might take your advice and just do two in the dry hop. Will see how large packagings I get. Might just throw in some third one too if it really is not much to save. Annoyingly my local brew store sells the hops 100g per package. This is a bit...
