    Contact time?

Well - the horse's mouth is where it seems logical to start. An ounce (max?) of spray vs. 5 gallons is quite a variation! I'm using one of the 5 gallon plastic buckets, so even distribution on the surface is a lot easier than a carboy.

    Contact time?

I have a question about sanitizing - when star san says a 1-2 minute contact time, does that mean spray on and let sit for 1-2 minutes, or does that mean I have to make 5 gallons and let it sit in my fermenter for 1-2 minutes and then dump the whole thing out? Seems silly to dump the whole...

    Souther Tier 2XIPA

That's good advice - dad always told me 'you never know until you ask!'. As far as our LHBS - I know - they're great guys and have been a great help in getting started.

    Souther Tier 2XIPA

Looking for my next adventure in HB - and had this little beauty last night. I would like to shoot for something like the Southern Tier 2X IPA and wondered if you guys had any suggestions for kits that might get me in the ball park. The last kit I did was a DME / specialty malt kit, which was...

    Rack to secondary too early?

Thanks Revvy - Do you spray the lid every time you take a reading? After taking the reading do you toss the sample or add it back to the bucket? It sounds like the starsan will last a while after it's mixed and doesn't expire like the idophor, correct?

    Rack to secondary too early?

Revvy - that blog link was busted! Do you use a sterilized beaker to take your readings off of and then discard?

    My first fat tire

I would second what folks say about FT - I think it was one of the better beers you could get while out, back 'in the day'. Ranger IPA is one of our favorite NB's (and Dead Guy is an old sentimental favorite.... not sure why it gets mentioned in this thread). For those who like Ranger - you...

    Outdoor Propane Burners... Worth It?

Hey gents - My burner's gaskets are fried - do you know where one might find some propane burner gasket replacements? In particular, the gasket that is on the tip of the male end of the tube on the tank side of the supply hose.

    Outdoor Propane Burners... Worth It?

I just boiled my first ever home brew last night :ban: - and used my massive aluminum crawdaddy pot - with my Chinese wok propane burner that's missing all the gaskets and rusted to all get out. That sucker throws a flame about 12-18" high and got that water up to heat in 10-12 minutes or so...
