    How to sanitize a Stone

These instructions came with my stone.

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Yes, I missed that too and for several brews I circulated boiling wort through it for a couple minutes towards end of the boil to "sanitize" it since I knew I would be using the pump during chilling and transfer. It didn't seem to hurt it. How do others sanitize it following mashing when you...

Using Bernzomatic Oxygen Cylinders for Oxygenating Wort

I place the wand at the bottom of the fermenter, crank up the Bernzomatic oxygen until I see slow bubbles, and let it go 60 seconds. I'm not sure if this is a great method? and is not very scientific, but I have had very happy yeast so far.

Looking At Getting Into Kegging. Would Like Some Input.

I'm confused. I thought you didn't need priming sugar to keg? I've read about either "force carbonation," or putting it under 30 lbs of pressure for several days. Why the corn sugar?

    Why I do secondary fermentation

So, if I do this for this Stout, the priming sugar won't have an affect on the way it is suppose to condition? My first Stout, so I really don't know much about it.

    Why I do secondary fermentation

I have read enough on this forum and elsewhere, and NOT used a secondary in several decent brews with recipes that called for a secondary, to conclude, for me anyway, that there is no reason to use one. However, I'm getting ready to brew my first stout with a recipe that calls for 2 weeks...

When to use an IC with a 60 minute boil?

    M Makes sense, thanks.

What do you do with your spent grains?

Our hens LOVE them. Eggs taste better too! (at least we think they do!)

When to use an IC with a 60 minute boil?

Not to highjack here, but this is somewhat related. I'm curious why in some instances "you need to cool the wort as quickly as possible after flameout," and in other instances, recipes call for you to add hops at FO, and let it rest for 15 minutes before cooling wort? In other words, how does...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Finally, an inexpensive solution for getting GFCI protection at 240 volts. These folks custom made this with a NEMA 6P on one end and NEMA 6R on the other. All for $69.99 with a 3 day turn around. Great folks to work with. https://shop.worldcordsets.com/shop

    Identify this fridge

I certainly wasn't dissin it. When I lived in a college Frat House, I actually loved the old fridge kegerator!

    Preferred grain mills around $200

I bought one and used it for the first time to grind 11 lbs. I set it to 0.035 (which is tedious to get even gap across the span), used the hand crank and it only took about 10 minutes to grind the 11 pounds. Unless I'm missing some fine nuances, I can't imagine any grain mill working any better.

    BRY-97 pitching rate

I ended-up pitching 16 grams because my OG was higher than expected and had vigorous activity in less than 24 hours. I'm not saying "bubble sound" is any kind of scientific indicator, but it's the first yeast I've pitched that I could hear the sound 6 feet away through the closed mini-fridge...

On my third brew, wondering how important fermentation temperature is

Maybe this will work? Thanks to this post, I built this and it has worked great so far. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/goodbye-swamp-cooler-hello-fermentation-chamber.679285/

BRY-97 not as slow as I thought it would be!

First time using BRY-97 which I bought and then read some negative reviews about it's slow start, etc. I was reluctant to try it and just go with old reliable US-05 because I didn't want to mess-up my first all grain brew that actually hit the expected OG. But I thought, what the heck, and...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

I had been buying my grains 'pre-milled' from Northern Brewer. My efficiency on two batches was horrible. So, I bought a Cereal Killer and carefully set it to .35 with my "points" feeler gauge (yes, I'm that old) and hit 75%. The only thing I did differently was mill my own grains.

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

I just did my second brew yesterday with an 11 lb grain bill, followed the manual instructions exactly, and ended-up with 5.5 gallons pre-boil, and exactly 5 gallons post boil. Unlike my first brew with the AF, in which my OG number was much lower than expected, I hit my expected OG of 1.060...
