Hop suggestions for a Trappist Single (Westmalle Strain)?

Another one to try is Sterling- a little more lemon/citrus along with the noble quality. I use it a lot in these types of beers.

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Thanks Noob - so if you aren’t using the pumps you could go from spigot over a mesh strainer to get cleanwort going into fermentor? Anyone else do that? that’s what I do now but I’m just dumping it (2.5 gallon batch) - helps with oxygen pick up too

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Thanks did it ever clog the spigot?

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Sorry if this has been addressed already but do you need a hop spider or ss filter on this system without the pump to be able to drain at end of boil/chilling? Can you free range hops in this thing without issues?

Why no higher end picnic taps?

I’ve built multiple systems with faucets and after my last keezer kicked it, I went simple on everything. I use the plastic Pluto and it works great with my 2.5 gallon keg setup - hangs in the side of the keg. Definitely recommend em over a picnic tap.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

Here’s another Lutra beer, this one was fermented in the mid 70s and keg conditioned for 2 weeks. Clean yeast profile and it seems to be dropping much clearer in the keg. A great yeast for this style. California common. Pils, Crystal 20, special roast and northern brewer hops

Adding squash to mash didn't work. Looking for future advice.

Ya squash and pumpkin don’t really have any flavor. I used to julienne the pumpkin when I made a pumpkin beer and mash raw to convert. Will Meyers who arguably made the best pumkin beer at Cambridge brewing gave me that tip. Would help with color and boost the Sg.The flavor came from allspice +...

    First kveik brews

ease of use, you can cool to 85 and pitch warm with some great results. In my experience you still have to let it clean itself up for at least a week or longer unless it has a crazy amount of hops that mask any yeast flavors - which alot of brewers do.

    LALBREW® VOSS KVEIK ALE YEAST

    When did you dry hop?

    LALBREW® VOSS KVEIK ALE YEAST

Has anyone been brewing West Coast IPAs with Voss? What did you go for on temperature? I have Lutra as well and may go that route, but I was t to give Voss a crack.

    Did the same lolz.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

I think the 3 days and its done is misleading - still needs conditioning and seems to get better and cleaner with time. I have a cali common that's drinking nicely now, but I went through the general ale yeast stages I use. 1 week primary, 2 weeks in keg, drinking. Still faster than a lager.

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

do you still get good attenuation?

Make your own beer, they said. You'll save money, they said.

You need to factor in time on those purchases. Brew with the same gear over 20 years and that $100 brew kettle gets a lot cheaper. I brew for fun but recently I’m brewing 3 gal stovetop with a $10 biab w/ a 5 gallon pot I bought years ago for $20. Bulk malt & hops and I certainly save $$but I’m...

    Omega Lutra yeast?

Thanks, yeah I didn’t see any activity on my keg when conditioning with lutra - I use one of these Keg Pressure Tester generally I’ll see activity on a yeast within a couple days, but didn’t see anything after about 5 to 6 days. Then saw this video It does have to do with flocculation.

    Omega Lutra yeast?

Here’s the blonde ale I made with Lutra - 4.2% - pilsner, wheat, magnum, palisade. it fermented clean and fast. I keg condition and had to pitch some k97 in this batch which I think made it a bit hazy and contributed some yeast character I wasn’t happy with. I’m going to use champagne yeast in...

    NEIPA Bottle Oxidation and alternatives?

    NEIPA Bottle Oxidation and alternatives?

I've been brewing about the same but an IPA back then didn't include huge amounts of adjuncts and 8-10oz of hops in a 5 gallons batch. I'd be luckily if I put 2oz of hops and dry hopped with 1 or 2 oz's. That's the reason people are obsessing about oxidation - these beers turn quickly. Go...
