English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Yeah I might order some 1 gallons in the future, the shipping prices suck at US plastics- it’s like a minimum of $12 for a couple $ worth of stuff🤷‍♂️ I have a couple of 2.5 gallons left over from when I had a beer engine hooked up to these. The beer engine seemed to collapse the Cubitainer a...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

8 days later in the Cubitainer this mild is still holding carbonation, I do have a weight on top pushing the Cubitainer down without hopefully bursting it. That seems to be helpful. it’s a 2.5gallon and it is about 1/3 finished. I just wish it wasn’t so unseasonably warm here in New England, I...

Are English IPAs especially susceptible to oxidation?

It won’t be as susceptible to oxidation as a neipa especially in the cold side you won’t have as many hops and should be a less protein focused mash. You’ll probably be dealing with a quality British pale ale malt and some crystal and a small dry hop. keep it simple, but oxidation can happen...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I have that book and have only brewed one beer out it - the Amber Small beer. It’s an interesting read but the recipes have some odd malts like Amber & Lager malts listed - the recipes are fairly simple. I think I toasted my own malt for one of the recipes

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Does the system work well? it would be nice if someone in the US imported some of those polypins but the market for real ale homebrew supplies I’m thinking is pretty small, who knows why? 🤷‍♂️

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I read on a post somewhere here about someone making one of those king kegs out of a speidel fermentor with these custom parts from NorCal: https://www.norcalbrewingsolutions.com/store/Fermenting-Equipment-Fermenters-Speidel.html I’ve thought about it since I already have the c02 injector-...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Yeah those are the styles I put in these. These are the ones I got in the US, a similar version is referred to as a polypin in the UK: https://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=23286

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

It’s not perfect, it loses carbonation over time, but I’m trying to put some pressure on the top to collapse it while serving. If you’re looking for a cheap and easy way to have real ale on tap, it’s great but you can’t control a lot of factors with these things to get perfect, consistent...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Thanks. Answers below: 2.5 Gallon Cubitainer- I might get some 1 gallons next year if I enjoy the results this winter. I didn’t have an exact line to fill it to, just leave an inch or so of space before the spigot. I put 30grams or 1ounce of plain organic cane sugar. not sure about the...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Here’s my latest attempt at putting my beers in Cubitainers - it worked out nicely on this mild. The head is a bit lacking (compared to when I had my beer engine) but carbonation is spot on and the recipe is delicious. It’s JW Lees mild with some tweaks...

Interested in growing my own beer garden

You are comparing commercial cereal and grain farmers with subsidies & automation (tractors for planting, harvesting and threshers for cleaning) to hand tools. That’s a huge difference in labor inputs, that’s why they aren’t getting $36k a bushel.

Interested in growing my own beer garden

that’s why they said to contact them, they probably have bulk seed prices, the packets on their website are for small gardens. Plus they are connected to the Northern Grain Growers, so I mentioned to get in touch. I didn’t really see anywhere in the original post about budget being a...

Who’s still brewing Belgian-style ales and what’s your favorite recipe?

The stock Ommegang beers red, Hennepin and rare vos are quite good and the spicing is very subtle. They were at one time $3.50 for the caged 750’s. I was lucky to attend two of their Belgian Beer fests, so much good Belgian beer at those fests. Allagash rocks, I’d recommend visiting the...

Who’s still brewing Belgian-style ales and what’s your favorite recipe?

So update on Ommegang, I hit them up on Instagram and it looks like they still do produce a couple Belgian inspired beers, but they “don’t make it everywhere”. So good to hear they still produce some, but the closest to me is 60 miles away to get some Rare Vos and I’m in MA. check their beer...
