Help Me Choose a Draft Set up

I went with the Taprite and I think it's worth the extra money. I also have a Chudnow and it seems the pressure seems to wander around when I first set it up, and it takes a while to get it steady. The Taprite stays right where I set it and doesn't creep. I went with stainless steel Perlick...

Help Me Choose a Draft Set up

Check out the Kegconnection.com I was looking for the same set up and found that it was only $35 to upgrade a kit to a dual body regulator.

6 months conditioning mandatory for a stout?

O'Flannagain's Stout is a great recipe. I just brewed it on August 31 and I'm drinking it already.

    Anyone in Maine

Welcome back. Another South Portland brewer here. I took a break when the kids were little too, except it took me 15 years to get back into it!

Looking for input on an All-Grain brewing set-up

Are you looking to do a single tier stand with pump(s), or three tier gravity setup, or something in between. I built a very simple three tier gravity system from 1" box steel. I have 2-10.5 gallon polarware pots for HLT and boil kettle, and a cooler mash tun. It works great, and it cost about...

What online company has the best deal for a keg kit for a ball lock keg?

You cant go wrong with either Birdman or Keg Connection. I have done business with both and am very satisfied. They both provide excellent customer service and their prices are competitive.

    hello from maine

Welcome. I'm in Maine also. You wont regret getting back into it. I was out for 20+ years and started again last year. In less than a year I've gone from stovetop extract to all-grain and kegging. There's plenty of good info and help here.

    Aggressive Fermentation, Need Help ASAP

I use 1007 quite a bit and it tends to be vigorous. I just did a wheat ale using 1007 and the starter went crazy and spewed out the top of a 1 liter flask. One day after pitching, it came through the airlock and made a mess. It was 5 gallons in 7.3 gallon SS conical, so there was plenty of...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

An American(ish) Wheat. It's one that I've made before and like a lot. I have always used Hallertau in this one, but LHBS was out this time, and suggested Pacifica. I'll have to wait another week or so for the verdict.

How long is your Brew Day???

I have all my gear set up on a 3 tier rolling stand which cuts down on set up time. It take me about 4-4 1/2 hours for a 5 gallon batch. That's with a 60 min boil, batch sparge.

Best Book to read about Home Brew?

If you're looking for something that covers many aspects of home brewing and is not too technical for a beginner to intermediate brewer the previous post (Papazian) is a good suggestion. Another would be John Palmer's "How to Brew"

Who has made their own Mash Paddle?

I made these out of some maple I had lying around. Its quite easy if you have all the right tools. I'm fortunate to have a planer, jointer, band saw, and table saw. I imagine it could be quite an undertaking without them. The smaller one works well in my cooler mashtun. The big one is for a...

    Maine brewing ingredients?

That could be difficult. According to a story in The Maine Sunday Telegram last Sunday. There is a guy who is trying to get a malt house going in Maine because there are currently none. According to the story, there are a handful of farmers who grow barley, but it is shipped to Canada to be...

    TAP RITE regulator question

I am currently getting set up to do the same thing. I plan to use the same dual pressure regulator and a manifold, though. One port will go to a 4way manifold. The other port will just have length of gas line and quick disconnect to force carbonate a keg. It may cost a bit less to just split...

    Wheat Beer

I recently made a wheat with lemon zest and it tastes great. I used 1oz. @ 2minutes for a 5 gallon batch. Just zest the lemons as close to your boil time as possible to make sure they are fresh, and dont zest too deep and get pith.

Building a three tier brew structure, need your opinion!

That looks like a pretty good start to me. I built one similar to your plan and I am very happy with it. Mine is 1" box steel. I sized it to the equipment I have, (42qt polarware pots and 10 gal cooler mashtun) keeping it as short as possible.
