How much water for this grain bill

QUESTION- Let's say I do my double sparge and end up with about 6.5 gallons of wort for my boil (which I would be looking for with this recipe). But there are still a lot of sugars in the wort that are collectable (just a lower gravity). Is there any damage to the "second beer" if I gather the...

How much water for this grain bill

Yeah, I wanted to do a Maharaja Clone so my OG target was 1.090, but after reading all over here and doing some research on the online brew supply stores I use, Simcoe is either unavailable or more expensive the Gold right now. :(

    cleaning my carboy

+1 on Oxyclean and hot water. I usually rinse my carboy out as good as possible after bottling, then fill to top with water and 1/2 scoop oxyclean and leave until I am ready to brew the next time. Keeps nasties from growing in it and gets everything else off. Once I am ready to brew, I hang...

How much water for this grain bill

I am contemplating brewing a 5 gallon batch which calls for a 21.25 lbs grain bill. If I did this I would be using a 48 qt cooler maash tun. Only problem is, the most grain I have ever used before is 10 lbs and that was BIAB. How do I determine how much strike water and sparge water to use...

    Maharaja Clone

I've been through this entire thread and there are umpteen different recipes to this beer. I have never tried it but want to brew it cause my Colorado buddy says its his favorite. Can someone post the MOST recent (2011) clone for this in 5 gallon batch? I prefer partial mash recipe, but I...

Can you tell me my efficiency?

first time sanitizing bottles help quick

Does your dishwasher really get the inside of your bottles clean, or is this simply a sanitizing procedure after you put clean bottles in there? I don't mind sanitizing my bottles, its the damn cleaning with Oxyclean and rinsing each one after.

Can you tell me my efficiency?

Last night I did my first AG BIAB. I was curious about my efficiency, but truth be told do not know how to figure it out. Here is my recipe: 6 lbs 2-row 2 lbs German Vienna 1 lb Honey Malt 1 lb Flaked barley I used 3 gallons for the mash and 3 gallons for the sparge "teabagging" I...

    Quick Question

For what it is worth, when you add top off water, shake the sh*t out of it before you take your OG. You want your boiled wort mixed thoroughly with the water.

    Ribcage immersion chiller

So, I am pretty proud of myself because last night I built my own ribcage immersion chiller using $40 in parts from Lowe’s and I managed to build it in 12 minutes (to show you how easy it was). For the record, I got this idea from another person on this forum, so I take no responsibility for...

    Covering ag boil.

Yeah, I know but he had a shrimp boil and I just got the itch when my ingredients came in tonight. On a bright side I built a rib cage immersion cooler in 15 minutes with 40 bucks tonight!!!!!!!

    Covering ag boil.

My buddy has mine right now and I'm 30 minutes into a boil. :-(

    Covering ag boil.

I know with AG you are supposed to leave boil uncovered to all dms out but is it ok to partially cover? Boil is pretty weak on stove top without it with this much liquid.

    Christmas for the new guy

To OP- When I first jumped into the deep end on here, I caught grief for my (whisper) like for Bud and Bud light, but someone gave me a really good pice of advice which I have taken to heart (sorry I cannot remember who it was): You can brew really good craft brews doing homebrews and using...

    Conditioning my Immersion Chiller

I just picked up my parts to build my immersion chiller from Lowes today and have one question: I read somewhere (probably on here) that I should boil the copper in a water and vinegar solution first time. Is this necessary? (wanted to build it while brewing a batch tonight and don't want to...

Marking water levels in my brew pots

I guess I will be making my third trip to Lowes this week! Thanks for the suggestions, and Q to 3 Dog: Do you have to worry about the oil leaching into your brew water? Any other good sealing suggestions after marking the dowel?

Marking water levels in my brew pots

I have two brew pots that are both 7.5 gallons. One is stainless steel and one is aluminum (taller and skinnier). I have started doing BIAB partial mashes and moving into AG BIAB. Considering I lose a lot of water in the mash, I would like to be able to mark different water levels in my pots...
