    8:00 Minute Cold Break

I have done this method several times since posting and using the quality zip lock bags, worked like a charm. I probably got the wort down to 60 or even below within 15 minutes. I've bought an IC since because I have moved on to AG full boil batches.

If you had to pick only 1 northern brewer kit to ever brew again what would it be???

I did the Caribou Slobber for my first kit and I was floored at how good it turned out. I made the decision by looking at their kits, seeing which ones were highest rated, and then out of those picked the one with the MOST reviews. If it got that many reviews and is still holding a 5 star...

    To Build or Buy?

This is rediculous. I bought the exact piece of copper about 3 weeks ago from Lowe's in Mississippi and it cost $20 bucks.

Sinistral Warrior IPA extract kit from Northern Brewer, and added 2 oz of warrior hops when done fermenting. bottled after 3 weeks, been in bottle about 7 days and tastes awesome. I know everyone brags, but this was not me- this is just awesome. Im staying up till more gets cold so I can have...

    OMG!!!!! Warrior IPA!

I got bored tonight (and ran out of homebrew that was ready) so I put some Warrior IPA in the fridge, and after about 20 minutes, put one in the freezer until cold. I just cracked it expecting it to be green because it has only been in the bottle for about 10 days at the longest- IT IS THE BEST...

    All-Grain Single Infusion Mash

I suggest this- add half a gallon of your heated mash water to tun for 2 minutes with it closed. Then pour in all your grains and then top off with rest of water. mix throroughly breaking up all doughballs. stick in thermometer and test temp. if good, then close. DO NOT MESS WITH IT FOR 15...

Next equipment and recipe purchase from NB...suggestions welcomed.

My turn- as an attorney dork, I always research **** before I jump. You definitely need a wort chiller. Look at it this way- you probably spend $4 bucks on ice every time you brew. Just pull the trigger and get one (warning- unless you have cold tap water running through wort chiller, I find...

What was the best beer kit (or recipe) you have made yet?

Jason- I think he may be referring to the recipe from Sam of Dogfishhead brewery. In his book Extreme Brews. Either buy the book or go to the bookstore one day and check it out. I plan on doing it soon, just don't know if my grocery stores have blood oranges in stock right now.

What was the best beer kit (or recipe) you have made yet?

Same here WCrooker, but I have only gotten into 2 of my batches so far and think my Cucumber Blonde Ale or Amarillo IPA may give it a run for the money..

What was the best beer kit (or recipe) you have made yet?

I'm taking notes, these all sound like things I want to try.

Compare Hops - Centennial, Magnum, Northern Brewer

I do not have enough experience with all of them to compare, but I do know that I have used Yakima Magnum and wanted to tape the bag over my face like a nurses mask while I brewed it smelled so damn good. Only one I have used so far that I like better is Amarillo. Still looking to use Simcoe...

What was the best beer kit (or recipe) you have made yet?

I know this is going to be a subjective instead of objective post, but trying to get ideas for my next batch and want to hear different kits/recipes I may not have heard of yet and how they tasted turned out. So think of your "Venice Di Milo" of beers and share!!!:mug: P.S.- oh, and Union...

    All-Grain Single Infusion Mash

I do brew in a bag on the stove. I heat my strike water to 165 and put 10 lbs of grain in it. It reduces to 153 immediately and I cover. I have actually had to come in and stir and add ice because the temp rises on me to about 160. I have recently begun to just leave the top off for 15...

Leaving hops in while the wort was chilling

Dare I bring up the dreaded word of brewing, but squeezing a bag of hops AFTER reaching pitching temp sounds like the making of a possible contamination- that is unless you are super steralized or using utensils that are. I just use the pellets, no bag, so I don't worry about this having to be...

How do you clean a stove after boil over?

I have tried all of the above and I can't get them to get this sh*t off my stove. Given, mine has been cooked on now, but I was wondering- could I pour some oxyclean solution on it and let it soak?

    Did I wash the yeast?

Yeah, I'll do a starter, but I do not have a local homebrew store and wanted to avoid having to buy an extra yeast package in case it doesn't work. I guess that is just smart to do anyways.

Yet another beginner thread, but this time about bare bones.

I built my equipment up over time. I drink like a fish as well (I usually do not have one with 5 behind it and Friday and Saturday have been my eternal quest to outdo myself every new weekend. 12 packs only make me thristy). I have 3 carboys, one fermenting bucket and one bottling bucket. I...

    Did I wash the yeast?

I have watched plenty of videos and read threads on washing yeast. I recently decided to do it with some White Labs 380 strain. Only problem is, I have no idea if I have an assload of yeast in my final collection vessel, or a bunch of Trub. For what its worth, I strained the wort using a...

I'm wanting to brew a Koelsch but...

OP- I have no experience lagering yet, so no help there, but in your statement about the chest freezer soon, just wanted to point out that my Lowe's has a 7.5 cubic foot Holiday cooler for sale right now for $178. You can get a 5 cubic foot freezer for $150.

    Brewing in the south

Man, being in Biloxi (not that distant from Auburn) I would have to say that 76 is already too hot and doubt your crawl space is going to do you much better. One key about temp control is trying to keep it steady as possible during the entire time. I have a no window central room with...
