    stuck fermentation?

Thanks Calder I think you are right with the seal. I had put the lid in a star san bucket while i was testing gravity, and when i put it back on wet. it began to bubble a lot out of the lock. But as it dried up, the bubbling slowed again. I hoping its because of this and not just shaking up...

    IPA Recipe--- first time!

thanks for all the advice! So, on a whim when I ordered from NB, I ended up ditching the Amber and went with their pale LME (which they call "golden") and got 9.15 lbs. Then got a pound of the crystal 80 b/c I like a more amber than pale IPA. Will probably use at most .5 lbs of it. I also added...

    IPA Recipe--- first time!

i think i plugged this in right to mr malty... and it seems you are correct sir, that i would need 2 wyeast packets. it seems that for a "simple starter" (which i guess the wyeast packs are??) i would need 200+ billion yeast cells and the 1056 packet only supplies 100 billion. does this...

    IPA Recipe--- first time!

Hey all... I'm going to attempt an American Style IPA. I like them bitter with a very nice hoppy aroma. I plugged all of what i think will be a good IPA into Beersmith. Couple questions... does this look like a good recipe? Also... I'm not quite understanding the boil volume. On the kits I...

Is krasuen an indicator of a healthy brew?

this might seem like a stupid question.... but what is the best way to check the gravity during fermentation while still in the primary? Secondary? Or better yet, how to do it for a carboy and for a bucket? I would imagine it would be to stick your auto siphon in there and pump some out, but...

    Hi all from Boston!

marko--- thats really cool. Were you part of that group when you lived in this area? do you know if they are generally receptive to new people just showing up to meetings? Or, is it the type of thing where i should shoot off an email to them first?

American Brown Ale 2ndary fermentation time

So, i am slightly confused now. so here are a few questions. With the secondary not being needed why do most posters have the beers brewing in secondaries? is that just because they are all bigger beers which need it? Secondly, I had been told by one of the workers at a local brew store that a...

yeah... ive been up to Woburn. Beer & Wine hobby or something like that. They are really nice and knowledgable up there. There is alsot barelycorns out in Natick. Which is a cool store, but i feel like they gear themselves more towards brewing groups on premises. I liked it, but they dont have...

    Hi all from Boston!

Hey everyone, I'm a new brewer out here in Boston! Currently working on third brew, a dark brown ale. Will be bottling it tonight and i cannot wait! My previous ones were a pale ale from the Coopers' brew kit. (didnt turn out that great--- but i attribute that to waiting over a year to use...

American Brown Ale 2ndary fermentation time

thats interesting about keeping it in the primary for 2-3 weeks. I thought I had read somehwere that the yeast that collect in the bottom (the trub??) could damage the beer if left there too long.

American Brown Ale 2ndary fermentation time

This is my first time posting on here! I brewed a batch of American Brown Ale about 10 days ago. I've had it in my secondary fermenter now since saturday 12/18. I was wondering how long i should leave it in there for before I bottle? The only caveat is that I am traveling from the 23rd...
