    What's happening right now.

So I am sitting here on my tailgate waiting on the grains to do their thing (BIAB) but somehow I always miscalculate how much water I can put with my grains and have room. Oh well. Pic of water coming up to temp before the little spillage. Only 2nd BIAB with 9lbs of grain in a 30 qt pot.

    another noob question.

Well it all depends on how patient you can be. Personally I usually have a taste test after two weeks with the knowledge that I should wait longer for better tasting and fully carbonated beer. Just curious about the close enough to done fermenting statement as I have experienced some bottle...

    Simple cooling trick

Yeah the "swamp cooler" way is the cheap way I like to do it as well. Can keep it way down with the temp in the house being set on 74. I checked on a batch I had going yesterday and it was down to 59. Little less changing of my ice bottles it seems!

Local Craigslist find - 15 gallon barrels

Looks pretty grimy to me. Not sure what chemicals being in them and what may hanging out in the plastic I think I would pass. No scientific reason just because I don't put car wash in my beers!

So this is my first starter and I am doing it in two steps to get to the proper pitching amount. I have already let it do its work for 24 hours with lots happening and placed it in the fridge tonight so that I can decant tomorrow and start the process with the next step of my starter. My...
