These 2 are my go to glasses.

    Yes another stuck fermentation question.

So it was the thermometer. Almost 15 degrees off. Yikes!

    Making a starter...first time

As far as how often to swirl it around is whenever you happen to go by it. That's what I did before I built the computer fan stir plate and it worked well. The yeast calc has input for which method you are using to get an estimate on output.

2 starters for your viewing pleasure.

One for a Brown Ale and one for some homemade pizza dough tonight. Ok back to it...gotta make my belly happy.

Yeah I am thinking it was a thermometer issue. Am I alright still bottling up this batch without worrying about bombs?

    Yes another stuck fermentation question.

A good shaking around is how I always have before mainly because that is all I have or know how to do. Yeast was only about 2 weeks from when I washed it and the starter was 1 liter. Can't remember the slurry though. Everything looked good on the stir plate and I chilled overnight and decanted...

Alright so where we are at now is 1.024 and holding steady. This is after I went ahead with the S-05 in it as well. Should I even try to bottle this or chalk this one up to learning experience and obviously check my thermometer during brewing next time.

I am baking some bread today so maybe I should just throw some active dry yeast in there as well. ;)

Alright here goes the summary of where I am at right now. It has been a little over two weeks since I brewed this pale ale that is in my primary right now. At about a week and a half I checked to see where it was at - 1.030...so I said well this is going down slower than my previous batches. I...

    Beginning my addiction

Yeah I did the Groupon buy last year and have my 8th batch in the primary now and my 9th ingredients should be arriving today. So yes you are correct it is an addiction!

    Cooling wort like a noob.

I use frozen gatorade bottles which are the same ones I use for my swamp cooler during fermenting. Keep heaps of them in the freezer. Although I don't put them directly in the wort but just keep the water surrounding my pot good and cold. Doesn't take too long if you keep them coming in there...

    Just made my first batch!

Congrats and welcome to the addiction.

Yeah I used that one actually. Just learning my setup a little better I guess or maybe quit rushing to make more and more beer!

Ideal fermentation temps in a closet

Yeah swamp cooler is the cheap way to go. I did a batch or two at 74 room temp without the cooler and noticed some weird/harsh off flavors. Ever since I have used the swamp cooler method things have tasted so much better and I enjoy what I brew even more.....which could be trouble! Keeping...

    What's happening right now.

So after the miscalculation I still came out with 82% efficiency. Heaps better than my first attempt at BIAB. Feeling better about things now.....everything cleaned up and in the fermenter now. Just sit back and wait now.
