Adding ice to cool the wort down?

Sooooo I just brewed using ice to cool the temp. down instead of my wort chiller (well that was the plan). So we added 1 gallon of near frozen water, 33F to 4 gallons of wort.....the temps went from around 200 to about 140! Pretty fast drop, but far from where I need to be, around 70F. I...

Adding ice to cool the wort down?

It sounds like you are actually putting the plastic jugs in the wort?? Why would you do that? If adding ice I would just simply freeze the water in baking pans or tupperware or something the night before the brew and drop the giant ice cube in. I also agree with the guys about adding near...

Adding ice to cool the wort down?

With that being stated.......does anyone want to buy a wort chiller??? :D

Adding ice to cool the wort down?

Awesome thanks everyone. So it seems that you can just boil then freeze water (in an airtight container) and you have no worries! So if it is that easy and that effective at cooling then why would people (myself being one) buy all of this expensive and labor intensive equipment for cooling the...

Adding ice to cool the wort down?

This may seem like a "dumb" question, however.......Why not just add ice to your wort to bring down to yeast temps.? I understand that by adding new water to the wort you will dilute it and that will have slight variance on your flavor, very minimal I'm assuming (i brew 7 gallon batches, so...

Copper Verdigris or Copper Clhoride from wort chiller

Yeah sorry I spelled Chloride wrong and then couldn't figure out how to delete the old post. I'm working in on it.:mug:

Copper Verdigris or Copper Chloride from wort chiller

Sage advice, however I have already done the deed. A buddy of mine just tossed the chiller in the wort before I could clean it off. So all of that blue/green stuff is now in my wort.

Copper Verdigris or Copper Chloride from wort chiller

There seems to be little info on this subject, so I figured I'd ask. Last night I was brewing my Fall seasonal, Chocolate Pumpkin Porter, and I realized that my copper immersion wort chiller had a blue or green color to it. Just assuming it was harmless, and having a few homebrews at this...

    Hydrometer reading(FG)=1.010 Brix=7.1%???

I've got a batch of IPA that has been in the primary for 2 weeks and the current hydrometer reading is 1.010 yet using a refractometer the brix % is 7.1. I've looked up a few different equivalency charts for brix->specific gravity and my readings do not match up??? I've also heard that brix...

    Cloudy IPA? 7 day fermentation?

Hey guys so I've got a batch of PSA IPA it's only been in the primary for 7 days and the airlock bubbles once every five minutes or so....at this rate I'm thinking it will be done in a few days, however that would only be a week and a half of fermentation and I hear people talking about 3-4 week...

    Fermenter Explosion=Cloudy Beer???

Thanks guys....I suspect you are correct in saying that I didn't stir the wort/water enough prior to taking the OG! So my next question would be; I know it seems to be a big deal about keeping air out of the carboy....so is it bad to occasionally take off the air lock to check the gravity...

    Fermenter Explosion=Cloudy Beer???

First time brewer here....I started my first batch of PSA IPA (brewers best kit) and decided I should dry hop it in the fermenter. Turns out the dry hops clogged my blow off tube and resulted in a top explosion from my carboy. Cleaned everything up and put the airlock back on and the beer seems...
