Do you know how to make a yeast starter? Then why not farm yeast and freeze it?

Is it necessary to add DME to a yeast starter made from frozen yeast if I'll be using it for hard cider? Will it not alter the taste? Thank you

    Slanting yeast

I've stumbled upon a great website useful for the average Joe yeast grower. http://everythingmushrooms.com They have everything from pyrex tubes to DME and pressure cookers. Again totally useless to me as the shipping fees to my country are $50.

    Slanting yeast

I know. I'm just saying I don't like the term "autoclavable" used for the pressure cooker. I used to work with autoclaves back in uni. and they're nothing alike. :) .

    Slanting yeast

Thanks for the reply but I've already searched on ebay. No US seller will ship overseas and no European seller has the vials I need, only 2 dram which are too small. I've found a Chinese seller, but I don't think the tubes he's selling are heat resistant (I don't like the term autoclavable as my...

    Graham's English Cider

What type of sugar did you use for priming? Fermentable I suppose, otherwise your bottles would not have been carbonated. Didn't you have any bottle bombs after that? Did you pasteurize any batch? What was your O.G. and the F.G. before 1st racking? Greets. p.s. This will be is my next...

Dextrose and Maltodextrine added together ?

Has anyone ever used dextrose for priming together with maltodextrin, which is used for giving cider body and mouth-feel? Should I stick to the priming calculators' directions and add the required dextrose quantity and the same amount of maltodextrine? Or a dext:maltodex = 1:2 ratio? I'm...

    First Cider from Scratch.

Yeast Calculator - http://www.mrmalty.com/calc/calc.html About the sugar addition, it's wise to have the starting sugar gravity (you'll need a hydrometer/saccharometer) somewhere around 1055-1060. So add sugar in small amounts and do consequent several readings until you're there. You can...
