    BIAB Strike Water

How many pounds of grain are you using. I have a 9 gallon turkey fryer pot and you can probably fit all the water and grains without having to do a dunk sparge. The 1.25 or 1.5 qts per pound pretty much goes out the window with BIAB. The excel file found on this page is an excellent and...

What percentage of your beer is homebrew?

98% I really only buy a beer I have never had it or if it's style I am interested in brewing (research). ;)

Help me improve my process (Pictures!)

The mash out really helped me. I keep the bag in stirring or slowly lifting the bag and dunking it back in and out as the wort heats up to 170. I also picked up a cheap pair of PVC gloves at Harbor Freight and they work great for lifting the bag and squeezing. I think they were around $6 a...

Carbonation Issues T-58 5 Weeks In

I would try swirling them around a bit to rouse the yeast and leave them at room temp (around 70) for awhile.

Carbonation Issues T-58 5 Weeks In

I recently brewed a Saison with T-58 and had the same issues. This was the first batch I tried a short cold crash with and figured that's what caused my issues. I eventually did the unthinkable and re-bottled the beer and it eventually carbed. It tasted great once it was carbed. I wouldn't...

    BIAB calculator challenged......

After a couple of batches I came to use about .11 Gal/lb so that seems to be a pretty consistent absorption ratio. Here is a pretty nice and simple excel calculator it even gives you your mash volume. For the trub in the kettle I just dump it all in unless I used a huge amount of hops...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Cast iron is brittle not malleable. Chances are if you try to make it bend it will just break.

    Bottling bucket fermenter

Sometimes if you tighten the nut too much the rubber washer distorts and will cause a leak.

    Sparging method for BIAB !

 Your joking right? It's been proven that you can only squeeze tannins out of the bag if you used ground up unicorn horns in the mash because they lower the PH.

    apparent vs actual attenuation

This is a pretty good video from Wyeast that I just watched last night. Around the 27 minute mark he talks about attenuation and even gives a tip how take a sample to get an idea how you wort is going to attenuate.

Neighbor says my rig looks like a Meth Lab

Last time I was brewing in my driveway a cop drove by then parked in the lot across the street and watched me for about 5 minutes. I really didn't notice him until my wife pointed it out. Maybe taking hydrometer readings caught his eye and looked suspicious. When my wife came out he left I...

    Replacing auto siphon tubing

I use just tubing from the hardware store without any issues. The beer is just passing through it's not in contact with the tubing for any length of time.

Could it be the capper that's the problem?

I am fighting the same thing with a Saison I recently brewed. I went over all the bottles with the capper a second time to make sure the caps are tight. Interesting thing is this is the first time I have had an issue and also the first time cold crashing and using star-san. I doubt the...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Here is my revision. I didn't have any washers on hand small enough so I used some 24 GA sheet metal. Hemmed over the short sides so that when the screws tightened they wouldn't distort the metal and leave any sharp edges. This is so solid I could probably stand on the mill. Plus it adds...
