    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

I don't have access to any of that except the ex head brewer from Knee Deep started one locally and is bottling IPAs. Probably better for the locals only thread but if you want some let me know.

Really Struggling with Pseudo BA Stout

My oak spirals said 6 weeks extracted all the oak flavor. Honestly I'd just take small samples of what you have going and when it's where you want it you can stop the aging process.

    White Labs....losing faith

Have you checked the gravitates yet? If not I would and see if the white labs is actually not fermenting instead of pitching a different yeast and assuming the white labs vial sent directly to you from them was bad. I think they'd want to know they're shipping bad yeast and ask for the lot...

Aging Big Stout in a Corny Keg?

I did my barrel aging using an oak spiral soaked in Whiskey and added it straight to the carboy. About 2 months later, mostly due to availability, I kegged it and it's sitting with 15 psi on it to keep everything sealed up. It seemed much easier to do it this way than have to fish the oak parts...

    It's time for a chugger...maybe

I went center inlet because it was available locally from a brewer switching up their plans. IU just did my first 10 gallon batch and I agree it's a lot of water to move. When I was pouring 13 gallons into my BK I realized why I bought a pump. When I was chilling I could use the pump to move the...

Best Way To Store Your Oxygen Stone

Add me to the list of people who store theirs in a StarSan solution. It's simple enough to do, I don't need to worry about misplacing it, it's always sanitized and nothing will live in there. The only downside is I've forgotten to drain the StarSan out of it and it's acted like it was clogged...

Poor post boil yeild need advice

What was your measured OG? What was the OG supposed to be? This could tell us a lot to help you more specifically. Most of the other information will help but if you're boiling 2 gallons and overshooting your OG it's one thing. If you're boiling off 2 gallons and nailing your numbers it's...

    Help with yeast starter

I'd make a starter as usual, decant all but 250 mL into mason jars, pitch a new starter and do it again. With the third starter I'd pitch everything. The reason I'd decant so much is to keep your inoculation rate high. If you just decant and add more starter wort you'll be growing fewer and...

    Keeping Star San

I store mine in spare kegs. It's pretty easy to rack it to a bucket as needed then rack it back after. It minimizes the amount of foaming so the 5.25 gallons lasts a long time. I can also fill my spray bottle while racking or take some straight from the keg if I want to. I also keep a small...

    Why 1L starter vs 2L?

Plenty of people make a 2 step starter like this. Fresh1L starter, ferment it out, decant, and Second "step" 1L batch of wort to grow more cells for a lager. Pitching the second "step" doesn't grow twice the amount of cells because the innoculation rate is so high. It doesn't stop...

Re-pitching on yeast cake over and over... is there a limit?

I'd say this is the best time to actually find out the real answer. You'll get to see how much "overpitching" changes the flavor of beer since you'll be making the same recipe. EDIT: Oh you're making mead....yeah I think that takes a lot longer to ferment out than beer so this may take a while.
  19. DurtyChemist

    Why 1L starter vs 2L?

As stated above the point of a larger starter is to grow more cells. The volume of beer you're decanting doesn't matter. The amount of food you provide the yeast will grow more cells. Also the inoculation rate is important. When you have a rate of 7 you'll grow a lot of cells. When it's <1 it's...
