    Mixing yeast strains

I would guess that the yeast that flocculates the best would dominate over time. You could also brew your first two beers with each pack individually and then you have pure yeast cakes of each and co pitch your third batch while retaining the two original yeasts if the co pitch does not work out.

    Wort Chiller Stops Boil

So first let me say do what you feel comfortable. If you feel like you need a boil to “sterilize” your chiller people above have made many good recommendations. I have always added my chiller at flameout. My chiller always killed my boil so when I did some research looking at recommended...

Any Lambic/gueuze blending tips & tricks?

What do you typically do with any leftover beer you do not blend. Say you have 5 gallons of 2 year old beer and use 2 gallons in a blend. Do you rack the remaining 3 gallons into a smaller vessel?

Belgian Experiments: Big beer, little beer. What do I call this?

I once brewed a 5 gallon batch of Scottish Export. Halfway through the mash I had the idea to somehow get a Wee Heavy out of the brew day also. I usually keg in 2.5 and 1.5 gallon kegs. So at flameout I ran 3 gallons through my plate chiller for the Scottish Export. I then fired the kettle...

Adjusting Hops When Scaling Down Recipe?

With the total recipe with pre and post boil volumes Brewer’s Friend matches up with BrewFather with calculated IBU’s. and if you update the actual Alpha Acid % we are back to you may just have to experiment with hopping rates on your system to dial in for your system. It would not hurt to...

Adjusting Hops When Scaling Down Recipe?

The hop strainer should not affect utilization. I’m confused how the bitterness is being calculated with brew father. Using Brewer’s Friend your two bittering charges are producing about 50 IBU’s if my assumptions for your recipe being 3.25 per boil volume and 2.5 gallon post boil producing a...

Adjusting Hops When Scaling Down Recipe?

How are you adding hops? Hop spiders or baskets can reduce utilization. Check with Anvil as they may have some information about hop utilization for your model since it is designed to make smaller batches. When I use my stainless steel mesh hop basket, I set my hop utilization to 75% so I’m...

Belgian Experiments: Big beer, little beer. What do I call this?

For the Dubbel, you could dissolve DME in your dilution water which would boost the ABV into the Dubbel style guidelines.

    Beer gas usage per keg

Maybe contact the company or Homebrew store that you bought the BeerGas regulator from. They may have experience of typical usage. Or maybe a national company like Kegerators, Wine Refrigerators, Water Coolers, Beer Taps, Compact Refrigerators | BeverageFactory.com I‘ve never used BeerGas so...

    My bottlle treatment a risk?

I don’t use soap but I use 1/4 tsp of B-Brite which I’m guessing is very similar to pbw, for a 12oz. Bottle.

    Bottling conditions/temperature

What temperature was the garage. If you live in Texas like me it may have been too hot. If you live in Montana it may not be a problem. Ideal Bottle condition temperature would be around 70-75°F (21-23.5°C) I doubt the beer is ruined, maybe next time find a closet in your house that stays a...

    Bottle Priming a Belgian Tripel

I brew a Belgian Brut Methode Champenois beer. I bottle condition the beer in Champagne bottles aiming for 6 volumes but you lose a little carbonation during disgorging. The beer is still very carbonated and requires a slow pour to not get nothing but foam. For Belgian Tripel aim for 3 to...

    Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison Stall

Mangrove Jack's M54 Californian Lager Yeast best practices?

Today, I brewed a 5.5 gallon batch of Cream Ale and used M54. I used two packs of M54 I recently heard about Go-Ferm and its use for activating dry yeast. I used a flask with 500ml of 110 degree water on my stir plate spinning just fast enough to mix things well, ie no vortex. Spun the Go-Ferm...

Updating my fermentation setup, edumacate me plz

If you keg, Another option is to ferment in sanke kegs. I have two 1/4 barrel (7.75gallon) kegs. I have the Serving Connect from NorCal linked below. Since buying this setup, I’ve only been able to use it once. There is a bit of a learning curve since you can’t see where the trub is. I was...
