    Why all grain?

I just went all-grain two weeks ago using the BIAB method. It's fantastic. I'm probably repeating what many others here have already said, but brewing all-grain brings you closer to actually making your own beer. With all-grain, the control you have forces you to think about the brewing...

    How's my barleywine recipe look?

I just brewed a barley wine with OG of 1.109. I had a hard time finishing it with a 2L starter of WLP090 and a second pitching a 2L starter of WLP099 in about 67 degrees. I think with a 3L starter you are going to be substantially under-pitching. You're looking at a 12% ABV final product...

It's under Advanced Options (that's what I read, I don't have it in front of me)

Calculating starting water volume for BIAB

I did my first BIAB on Saturday and found the exact same number. I think BeerSmith estimated something like .07 so it was about right. I second the recommendations for BeerSmith. I used it for my BIAB and was only a tad off from the preset mash efficiency, boiloff rate, and grain...

"I'm such a newbie" Kegging Question

You'll want a manifold most likely: http://morebeer.com/view_product/16388/102238/Gas_Manifold_-_2_Way Hook this up to your regulator and you can pressure two kegs. The only catch is since there is one regulator, they need to be the same pressure...which is most likely not going to be a problem.

    Dogfish Head 90 minute clone?

scottland posted a good recipe: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f69/dogfish-head-90-minute-clone-260675/ I'll be brewing it in a few weeks, my first BIAB attempt.

    All grain setup, downsized?

If you can get your hands on the latest Zymurgy magazine, there's an awesome article about urban all-grain brewing using the Brew In a Bag method. Also check out the sticky on BIAB in the All Grain forums. Seven made an awesome post that has convinced to go all-grain using that method.

    Force carbing at room temp

    Thanks for all the replies.

    Force carbing at room temp

Okay. I'm certainly a noobie to kegging so this may be a dumb question, but could this lack of carbonation issue be a result of just not releasing and lowering pressure and doing the test dispense properly?

    Force carbing at room temp

Also, in order to properly test it, do I need to release pressure and lower the psi? Otherwise I'm dispensing at 35psi, tons of foam, and I'm wondering if that has an effect on how the carbonation tastes.

    Force carbing at room temp

Yeah something does sound wrong. But I don't see/detect any leaks visually, and my tank psi has been steady this whole time. The beer isn't completely flat, but it's about half as carbonated as I think it should be. Could headspace be an issue? I poured a pint of it last night to test it...

    Force carbing at room temp

Hey guys, I'm kegging for the first time and need it to be ready for a work event Thursday. I kegged it two Sundays ago (12/4) at 22psi in a room that is 60 degrees in order to achieve a volume of 2.2. When I dispense a small glass to check it, it's pretty flat. So I have a few questions...

    Pitching a 4L starter

I plan on brewing a pretty high gravity barley wine pretty soon (OG 1.115) and am trying to plan out the yeast pitch. Since I plan on making a larger starter (4 liters) using WLP090 San Diego Super, I am considering letting the starter go to work in my fermenter, account for the volume and...

    Morebeer! Economy Kettle

I want to buy a new 8-9 gallon kettle to transition from partial to full boil. In looking at kettle products, I'm leaning towards morebeer.com's economy 9 gallon: Modified Brewing Kettle - Economy 9 Gallon | MoreBeer They also sell the "heavy duty" kettles. Heavy Duty Brew Kettle (32...

    unhappy extract brewer

BeerSmithSonian, I've been brewing extract partial boil now for almost a year now. There are definitely aspects of my final products I'm not fully satisfied with, but overall I think the beer that my process produces is quite good, and I typically get great compliments. There are a couple...

Happy Thanksgiving! What 'cha gonna drink?

I'll be bringing a ton of beer to the family festivities. My homebrews include: Pliny the Elder clone, B3 Barleywine, and a dark pumpkin spice ale. I'll also be bringing a 2008 Old Guardian and Stone's 15th Anniversary.

    Recommend a barleywine

Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary Black Barleywine is fantastic. I also really like the Lagunitas Gnarlywine, but that may be hard to get in IL.
