Brew the same or something different?

I keep a brew log on all my beers. Have done different styles, plus some small changes to previous brews. When my log is full (only have space for one more) my plan is to go back and rebrew all of them. With more experience, I want to see how I can make each better.

    Fastferment conical/Mr Beer seal.

I have a 3g Fastferment and have no problems with it. I did notice that there is very little activity in the air lock, but have not had any issues with o2 getting in. I love it. I had been using a 3g Brewdemon. It works fine, but not as nice as the Fastferment. It's like having a primary, and a...

    Epic beer run

Just truly amazing! He should get a medal of honor for the way he put himself on the line, just for a beer for a friend. I know none of my friends would do that for me.

Reusing stubby bottles from Sierra Nevada issues.

I had the same problem with a wing capper. Got a bench capper and no longer have any problems getting the caps tight.

    Brewing Small Batches

I use the Fastferment 3 gallon conical for 2.5 gallon batches. It's a great fermenter that allows you to dump yeast and trub without needing a secondary( I like to age Belgians before bottle). Before I got that, i used a brewdemon 3 gallon conical. Also a good piece of equipment. Both types can...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I always soak my Jasmin rice overnight, then rinse till clear water come through. Steam, cool then mix powdered yeast bell in. Never had a bad batch yet. Finishes nice and sweet. Side question: anybody else have it carbonate in the bottle? I've had 2 batches, that we're harvested at 29 days...

    Coffee or Kahula type mead

I don't have any experience with mead, but I know someone that tried a coffee mead with beans in the must. Came out really nasty. The beans for some reason turned it rancid. I did brew a stout that I added cold brew coffee to and it turned out great. I think that the cold brew route would be a...

Belgian Strong Ale (Wyeast Labs #1388) but dry?

My pallet is not as refined as others so I didn't notice any fruity characters, but there is a bit of clove. The alcohol flavor they describe is there, but it fades a bit after a few months. Over all I liked it a lot, but I could barely tell the difference between the m31 and the m21. I'm new...

Belgian Strong Ale (Wyeast Labs #1388) but dry?

I've used the Mangrove Jacks m21 and m31 and found both to be pretty good. I would order one of the Mangrove strains and the liquid yeast. That way if the liquid doesn't make it, you have a dry option. If the liquid is still good, make 2 batches with each yeast to for comparison.

    30L Plastic Barrels

Not that I would be able to take any off your hands, but curiosity peaks me. What kind of barrels? Are they wood or plastic? Either way, if I was over there sounds like a great deal. I now see it says plastic. Must be past my bed time.

    Trying Sours...Recommendations?

Aunt Sally from Lagunitus is a good kettle sour example. Very tart, with ipa like hoppiness. Gose's are a good starting point for sour virgins. Most are lightly tart, with a little salty, citrus flavor. I'm a sour patch kid nut, so finding the sour flavor I expected was not easy. Aunt Sally was...

    Sauerkraut Starter Gose

I know very little about them. Only what I've read on the interweb. Started a batch last week. Can't wait to see what they become. I figured since they are preserved the same way you make kraut, that there should be some of the same kind of bugs in them. Only one way to find out. The mad chemist...

    Sauerkraut Starter Gose

Anybody thought of using the brine from Morrocan Lemons to kettle sour? I think thats my next project. Gotta finish my current batch of kraut so I can start some lemons first.

    Pressure cooking wort with hops

Interesting concept. I have a stove top pressure cooker, and am curious on how long it takes for the instant pot to get up to pressure. It take less time for me to get my wort up to a boil than it does to get pressure in the pressure cooker. Seems like it would take almost the same amount of...

    Stupid Joke Thread!

Little Johnny had a teacher that would give out a jelly bean for a correct answer. Every time Johnny knew the answer she would call on somebody else. He got tired of missing out on the goodies, so he went to the candy store to get some jelly beans. They were sold out, so he bought some malted...
