    I hate pipleline

I think that advice is meant for those who have to ask the question. Once your brewing chops get a little more refined, you are in more of a position to let the beer talk to you, or use the Force or even try tasting hydrometer samples. When a newb asks you long to primary, 3 weeks is a pretty...

How many gallons of EdWort's Haus Pale Ale have been made?

5 more going as an experiment to compare with my first 5 (with different water) =3655

    Steam to Boil

Careful with steam, it can be extremely dangerous even when you know what you're doing. When you don't, you get the following

Overcarbed in the bottle - it can happen

I'd like to drag this one back up and ask what you did and how it worked. I just overcarbed a stout (no gushers, just too much CO2). I usually carb a stout to about 3 volumes, then splash it into a glass to knock some of the CO2 out and give it a nice head. Something went a little wrong with...

    Brewing in the frickin' cold!

If you love the cold then you are living in the wrong location! Here is the weather from one of the places that I fly to from saturday. You'll notice that they removed the windchill warning because it was only supposed to be -50. Of course homebrewing is illegal there (along with the...

    Sold on staggered additions

Thanks for that, I know that chemicals really ought to be weighed, unfortunately all I have is a food scale that I don't really trust for the fractions of a gram. I actually did use the spreadsheet at the top of this forum to figure out the staggered additions (although I know it calls for 3...

Good for you man, I am officially wussing out this weekend. At least we are off of the overnight low of -35. Maybe next weekend.

    Aluminium Bottles

Our twist top bottles are significantly different from the American variety. Twist tops in the states are designed to be single use and use way thinner glass which presents problems for homebrewers. Bottles in Canada are designed to be refilled a dozen or more times and use thicker glass.

    Sold on staggered additions

About a week ago I started a blueberry mead. After much reading I decided not to heat the honey (but I did sulphite for 24 hrs due to the berries) and to use staggered nutrient additions. After maybe 4 or 5 days (I need to keep better notes!) I noticed that there was a distinct sulphur aroma...

Beer Philosophy - What is it about homebrewing...

*meekly raises hand* I actually started brewing trying to make budweiser or the like. Seriously, when you're plunking down 38 bucks a case, you start to figure hey, it can't be that hard can it? My tastes did tend towards the the light lager although I did appreciate most of the various...

    Open Fire Boiling

Whenever cooking over a fire, a surprising amount of stuff always seems to end up in the pot from the fire, I would totally believe that wort cooked over a campfire would taste like it. I suppose that as long you aren't brewing up a light lager, this would be a fun experiment. I might like to...

How many brews for BBQ propane

Your numbers look a lot like mine as far as how much gas to get to and maintain a boil. Icthy makes a very good point about a heat shield conserving a lot of fuel, especially if there is any wind at all. I plan on building a more permanent one when it warms up a bit.

Dude I'm so sorry the game got called early...here, let me throw this out there, what does EAC mean?

    Ascorbic acid / Vit. C

Huh, that is really interesting, I never would have really thought about using that. I wonder if it is kind of like using K-meta in wine to prevent oxidation when racking. I might be tempted to try it, I can't imagine it would affect the flavour of your beer and hey, who doesn't need more...

How many brews for BBQ propane

Oh come on man, don't tell him that. That was by far one of the coolest rockets they ever made. I would love to see it again, maybe on one of those 'caught on film' type shows. You do have a cell phone camera don't you Christafer?

    Coopers Stout mix

I just bottled a coopers stout (even though i've gone all grain I keep coming back to that one). I used 1 coopers kit, 2 lbs dme, 1 lb table sugar and used S-04 instead of the coopers yeast. It started at 1.044 and finished fairly high (1.018) but that seems kind of normal to me when using...
