How many gallons of EdWort's Haus Pale Ale have been made?

I almost forgot about this thread. Two more 5.5 gallon batches here for.... 4075 total

What's the Deal with Nottingham Prices?

I used mine in an Edworts Haus Ale as well....wait, I guess I have a few batches that still need adding to that thread!

What's the Deal with Nottingham Prices?

I used notty a few times when I started brewing and started running into some trouble with the 'bad lots' (long lag time and less than stellar beer). I was off of it until they changed the packaging, but have my first brew with the new stuff and it is looking really good. Super fast start and...

The origins of lager yeast just discovered

All of a sudden, Budweiser's beechwood aging makes sense. AB must have known about this all along...sneaky buggers... ;)

    Did I ruin my wine?

I don't know about the sorbate, but some extra age will definitely help with the extra campden. I had a minor mixup with campden and ended up with too much in the wine. It was a little unpleasant at first, but almost a year later it is way better.

very first brew.. muntons irish stout

That could be touch on the warm side if thats room temperature, as the ferment will increase the temperature in the bucket a few degrees. At this stage I wouldn't worry about it, plus the style is a little forgiving with some extra esters being okay. If you were trying to do a cleaner ale...

    Hmmm, put probe in water?

I'm going to give this a big +1. The one thing that I do slightly differently is that I tape the probe to the 'ceiling' of the chest freezer in front of the fan. I used to tape a separate insulated thermometer to the carboy to see what was going on in there, but quickly learned that it wasn't...

very first brew.. muntons irish stout

Sounds great, I look forward to hearing about your success. Just to confirm, you are going to use the 3.3 lb kit, plus 3.3 lbs extract, plus .5 lbs sugar? That sounds like exactly what I would do. In a 6 gallon batch, your gravity should come out to about 1.041. Depending on how it...

very first brew.. muntons irish stout

My first ever beer was a coopers kit where I used 2.2 lbs of corn sugar. It didn't have a cider taste, it basically was cider. If you closed your eyes, you would swear that there was nothing but apples in it. I think part of the problem was the sugar, and part was the lack of temperature...

    brewing barleywine

You have gotten some good advice so far. My only addition would be that your plan of 2-4 weeks in bottles is pretty optimistic for higher gravity beers. They like taking their sweet time carbing up sometimes. You could be very well looking at months rather than weeks, just so you don't get...

very first brew.. muntons irish stout

1mainebrew probably assumed that the 3 lbs of dark lme was all of the fermentables though. Could you confirm that you are already using a 3.3 lb kit plus an additional 3.3 lbs of lme? If you add 3.3 more lbs to that, you could end up with stiffer beer than you might be counting on. This...

very first brew.. muntons irish stout

I presume that you are taking a can of prehopped irish stout lme (3.3 lbs) and adding an additional 3.3 lbs of lme? In that case your starting gravity would around 1.045 in 5 gallons, or 1.041 in 5.5 gallons (in line with style) I'm guessing that you are adding the lme in place of the sugar...

Anyone here selling beer in Ontario?

And you live in Manitoba which isn't nearly as bad. For a little perspective, in Ontario if you are caught with a beer in a rubber dinghy with two paddles, you are facing a criminal code conviction and losing your licence for a year...

    This Heat is Causing Withdrawals

I can't bring myself to mash/boil in this heat either. Consistantly 90 something up here is unheard of, but my converted freezer was sitting empty. I hit up a coopers kit and something called 'brew canada' to fill the void. I then spent the remainder of my day soaking in the lake. Is it...

    Munich helles production method

I have not yet brewed my first lager, but I have been reading a lot in preparation of doing it this fall. My question would be are you making a starter? It seems that underpitching lagers usually causes 'ale' like characteristics due to the stressing out of the yeast during the reproductive phase.

    concrete fermenters??

Being epoxy, I have to wonder if there are bpa concerns with prolonged contact. Personally I think that all of the BPA concerns were pretty overblown thanks to the media, but that said I did stop using my old style Nalgene....

As long as you keep those ducks out of your 2 row :)

    I think I've been ruined.

Head down to the LCBO and get yourself a six pack (or three) of the flying monkeys amber ale. That is a gateway beer if every there was one. Even their anti-gravity (which is only a 4% light ale) has more actual good beer flavour than anything labatts spews out. I have a feeling that you...
