DIY Grain Mill Station...Another MOTOR Question

I received a response from Steve to an inquiry of my own. He stated that he would not be able to ship anything until the second week of January. I have yet to put in an order of my own, let me know how you like yours! (I have figured out the model number of the one being sold by...

    Polycarbonate and boil temperatures

For what it's worth... I have gone through 3 polycarbonate sight glasses on my electric rig. 1 made by myself, and 2 of Bobby's. Though they can take the heat, the repeated use in the brewing process continuously resulted in each of my three sight glasses forming stress fractures. The first one...

How do you clean your kettles without removing it from the stand?

My rig is affixed to the table and has rigid plumbing. My cleaning regimen is basically rinse-PBW-rinse with liberal application of sponge and/or brush as needed.

Major issues with my Barley Crusher today - this common to single roller mills?

I got a hand-me-down Barley Crusher from a (now) professional brewer who wore it out in his homebrewing days and I proceeded to thoroughly wear out over the last 3 years. My "solution" was to mill twice, once at .065" and then again at .035". This would make milling bearable as freewheeling...

    Double-mash into software…?

Titletown Brewing of Green Bay commonly did a "double mash" for their very high gravity beers. However, their method was to simply mash and sparge normally, but stop collecting runnings when the wort drops to a predetermined value (the following lower gravity wort was given away to homebrew club...

    Methods to speed up fermentation?

Don't forget cell count. In the instance of your 2 gallon cider, you were in the ball park. But more workers means the job is done faster, use a pitch rate calculator to determine number of satchets or size of a yeast starter. Also, I agree that you should be raising your fermentation temp...

    Jeep won't start

Right, it will work on Homer's, but may not on Curtis' since his is AMC era. Older stuff flashed the check engine light in a pattern to show codes, since digital odometers weren't always a thing.

    Cheap pump regulators

Yes, that would work. A DC motor's speed can be controlled by varying the voltage applied to it. These "regulators" are simply solid state relays that duty cycle (pulse width modulation) the amount of voltage applied to the motor. 60 watts at 12 volts means that it can handle 5 amps, which...

    Jeep won't start

I'm not sure about the early Jeep FI engines (anything labeled "litre" and sold by AMC).But all Chrysler era products with the JTEC or newer engine controllers will either flash or display the codes on the dash.

    Jeep won't start

Just so we are clear: There is nothing worse than trying to diagnose a car over the phone or the interwebs. With that said, there are some quick checks/tests/things to rule out. First- You stated that the ignition short was arcing through the boot of the ignition cable and back to the coil...

    Jeep won't start

You MAY have spark when laying the plug against the head/block because less firing voltage is needed without compression. However, WITH compression, the firing voltage required becomes higher than the voltage required to jump back to the coil.

    Jeep won't start

Professional mechanic here. If you are arcing like this: Then there is a crack in the coil insulation and the secondary voltage is shorting back to ground through the primary winding. Very common for old Dodge/Jeep products. Replace the coil. Yes, if you have spark, then you have cam and crank...

    Food Grade Lid Grommets

As I'm scrubbing up some buckets to dump the latest 11 gallons of wort into, a silly thought entered my mind while cleaning the lids... "In all the years of reading silly **** on HomeBrewTalk, I have never seen anyone ask about 'food grade' lid grommets, why is that?" Is it because people...

Black residue to my brew pot from gas burner is becoming a hassle

The air fuel ratio isn't "off," it's just that the jet on the carb isn't capable of supplying fuel at stoich through the entire range of throttle. But air/fuel ratio aside, the boy scouts have had a solution for this years before we started brewing beer on turkey fryers :-)...

IBU's affected by using Muslin bag?

Just bear in mind, when using a hop containing device, that when using Irish moss or whirlfloc the snot produced tends to gum up fine meshes an reduce flow between the two volumes created. So, muslin bag? Plenty large, so much so that most the hop pellets will probably manage to escape. I have...
