    Novalager or ale yeast

Why are you giving up? What exactly is the problem? My lagering setup is extremely low-tech - a 5 gal fermenter sitting in a swamp cooler with frozen 2-liters. I've done a few lagers in this setup, using 34/70 and S-189, with more than acceptable results. Weihenstephaner (if that's how it's...

    What's your "burn" rate?

48 batches since 2019; quite a few dumpers (1 immediate, 4-5 shortly after bottling, most recently a stout extract kit that I got gratis on Marketplace, not lamenting the loss). Try to limit drinking to 3-5 beers over the course of any given weekend, so QA of each is important, but sometimes...

What I did for beer today

Packaged 42 bottles. Deep-cleaned fermenter and bottling bucket. Now I'm done doing things for beer for awhile.

What I did for beer today

Took my FG reading, numbers look correct. Had to drink the gravity sample, for the sake of science; tasted good. Visually, it looks like the clarifying gelatin helped. Every season I get closer to my goal of an almost-legit O-fest.

Growing Cascade bine in S Jersey is a hopless endeavor

I'd be happy just to get cones. Haven't thought about how I'll actually use them if / when they appear.

    What are you drinking now?

Unter Dog at Yard's Brewing, Philadelphia PA. A true marzen; delicious.

Growing Cascade bine in S Jersey is a hopless endeavor

Watering schedule adjusted to tri-weekly, with the addition of Alaskan fish fertilizer today's (relatively) cool morning. Leaves look pretty good, the bine seems to be growing, just no cones. As said, looking like a hopless endeavor this year, but will be consulting all the posts in this thread...

What I did for beer today

Added some gelatin to (hopefully) clarify an almost-marzen in the fermenter that' s a few days away from bottling.

This exactly the sort of reply the post deserves!

I survived pitching Lutra into Amber Ale at 95F

Did you find it thin? Lacking body? That's my problem with Lutra brews.

    Help with Faux-toberfest recipe

Agreed. The last leftover w-f lager that I used S189 with was / is delicious.

    Help with Faux-toberfest recipe

Use 34/70 or S189 and a swamp cooler. Either will get you surprisingly close to an Oktoberfestish lager, even at temps in the 60s.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

    That's an interesting fermenter.

Growing Cascade bine in S Jersey is a hopless endeavor

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Per Bobby_m, I'm going to cut down on the watering; per Scrap iron, I'm going to try some Alaskan fish fertilizer. It's late in the season for cones, but maybe next year.

Growing Cascade bine in S Jersey is a hopless endeavor

Bine starts to sprout, is watered twice daily in the hot summer months and has grown pretty well; looks healthy, but produces no cones.

    No replies necessary. Just venting.

    What are you drinking now?

Cape May Brewing Co Hazy Dawn. Like most of their beers, super-solid and very crushable. Would appreciate feedback on Buzzard's Bay - I have enough glassware, so if BB sucks, this pint is history.

Life in a small French village for an old American

Hoping that you don't class Tellen Du as degeueulasse - according to my ex-French-teacher wife, that's a pretty harsh designation.

I survived pitching Lutra into Amber Ale at 95F

I've never had much luck with Lutra. I brew a buckwheat porter with it that turns out well. I've tried Ambers and pseudo-lagers that had OK flavor but were uniformly thin in body. Kveik I've had no success with, at all.
