A couple RIMS element questions for an electric newbie

This is very concise and helpful. I was originally considering 5500w ULWD elements in both the boil kettle and HLT. Based on this thread, I was thinking of dialing back the Boil element to 4500, but I think I may stick to the original plan. Do you find that you don't need to cycle the HLT...

A couple RIMS element questions for an electric newbie

Maybe my statement was confusingly written. $5 is the discrepancy btw the 120v and 240v RIMS rockets. $264 vs. $269 This is news to me. Thanks for cluing me in. I am just reading the Brülosphy and Mad Fermentationist articles on this. Interesting! This is where I get pretty confused. I...

A couple RIMS element questions for an electric newbie

Thank you all for the thoughtful comments. This gives me a lot to think about. Admittedly, nearly all of the technical information is above my head... I.E. I don't even know how to program a PID, therefore I'm not sure what my best options for boil control are. I'll obviously learn as I go, but...

A couple RIMS element questions for an electric newbie

Hi all, I am putting together an electric panel: 3 PIDs/3 burners - HLT, RIMS, Boil. Power is 240v, and I will be using 240v 550w elements in the HLT and Boil Kettle. I have a couple (potentially dumb) questions. I will likely use the Blichmann RIMS rocket which comes in 120v and 240v at a...

240v power supply troubleshooting for noobie

Thanks for the heads up about MMC. They have a 6ft GFCI in-line L6-30 cord for $179. GFCIstore.com has a similar 2 ft. cord for $142. Will still need an adapter on both end for this though with my 3 prong (10-30) dryer outlet and cord. I'm thinking because of this, there may be a more economical...

240v power supply troubleshooting for noobie

That seems to be the best solution. I will probably have to fashion a custom extension, NEMA 10-30 on one end and L6-30 on the other -easy enough. Thanks!

240v power supply troubleshooting for noobie

Hey all, I know there are several related threads, but I haven't found anything that addresses my questions exactly. Sorry for redundancy, if in fact this is a repeat. I am putting together a 10gal system running 5500w heating elements. I am in a rental and have one 220v outlet that is...

Keezer build with 5.1 cu ft igloo

@moodyone How roomy is the Igloo 5.1 inside? Any trouble with 2 ball-lock kegs? Was thinking of putting a sankey and one ball-lock if the unit (with collar) can accommodate.

British Yeasts, Fermentation Temps and Profiles, CYBI, Other Thoughts...

Wanted to ask you also about 1275 and why you like it. Choosing between that and 1318 for this week's brew. I have both. Love high malt profiles, but want to stay true to style for Best Bitter. Thanks all!

What do you not like about 1275? I'm about to brew a Best Bitter and have some 1318 and 1275. I like the sounds of 1318, but wonder if it might have to much residual for style accuracy. I'm only using about 5% crystal 120, with the rest to Maris Otter, Special Roast and a tiny touch of Aromatic...
