    Pier Pressure to Peak Pressure

You may be right. The experimenting part is where I find the most fun..but the possibility of exploding bottles in the car kinda makes me nervous.

    Pier Pressure to Peak Pressure

I've brewed an extra kit hefeweizen...13 days in primary and 12 days in the bottle so far. It still has somewhat of a bitter finish so I'm assuming it just isn't done. I split 5 gallons in to two bottling buckets. In one, I primed 2.5 gallons with a little over 2.25oz of dextrose. In the other...

    Naming your beers?

Nice name. I named my first brew Johnson's Super Bad Ass Sweet Bottled Brew...I feel better about myself for drinking it. Why not come up with something completely ridiculous for your next one?

    Does this look right?

Thanks Bleme, I'll keep an eye on them for sure. The style seems to call for up to 8oz but I decided that would be too much of a risk.

    Does this look right?

It is bottled. My caps seem watertight but I can twist them with a heavy amount of effort. I notice that I can do this on some store bought bottles as well. I used 6.5 oz of dextrose as opposed to the estimated 5oz for 5 gallons. Anything to be concerned about?

    Does this look right?

Should I be worried about how long it settles? Now, I'm assuming it's bitter because of the suspended yeast. How does a normal hefe retain the cloudiness without being bitter?

    Does this look right?

Thanks uniondr, it's been stable for the last two days and I don't expect to see anything different when I test later tonight. Kealia: I've kept it at 65.5 F without exception and I'm planning on going directly to a bottling bucket. I *feel* like it could have been done a few days ago, but I've...

    Does this look right?

My first batch. It's an extract kit hefeweizen on day 14 of primary. All of the signs point to a finished fermentation with final gravity of 1.010. I'm thinking of racking tonight but I want to make sure I'm not, as one poster said, "brewing by a calendar" instead of brewing by the beer. So...

5oz of beer per 5 gallons of corn sugar?

I noticed that too. I was kinda guesstimating based on what some of the other wheat beers had. Thanks for the input.

5oz of beer per 5 gallons of corn sugar?

So far as I know, that's correct. So am I believe the extract kit or what some other sources are suggesting?

5oz of beer per 5 gallons of corn sugar?

I think this clarifies my question. Now that I have the idea of carbing vs carbing to style, is there a preference? How does it affect the end product? Any resources you'd suggest I look at for more information on carbing? Or perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself? This is my first batch so I'd...

5oz of beer per 5 gallons of corn sugar?

Nothing is wrong, per se. It just conflicts with what the extract kit included.

5oz of beer per 5 gallons of corn sugar?

My extract kit hefeweizen included 5oz of corn sugar. For a 5 gallon batch at 68 degrees,is that enough? Tastybrew's calculator says that should give me a CO2 volume around 2.7ish. However, the same calculator (and many others) suggest 3.3 - 4.5. Even Palmer seems to suggest more than 5oz of...

    ABV vs Attenuation

So it seems like I've done some backwards reading on my attenuation. Thanks for pointing that out!

    ABV vs Attenuation

II topped off with water but I feel like I stirred it pretty well. It was a dry yeast. Fermentis WB06. My OG was just under 1.060. Currently, I'm right at 1.025

    ABV vs Attenuation

I didn't aerate this round because I was told that Hefeweizen didn't need to be aerated much. If there's one thing I've learned so far, it's that each question has 10 different answers that take me in 20 different directions. Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a shot next time and see how things...

    ABV vs Attenuation

    It's an extract kit.
  18. Johnson1522

    ABV vs Attenuation

My thoughts exactly. At first, I attributed that to a lower temperature but everything I'm reading suggests that 65-66 is an ideal temperature. The extract kit suggests a 5% abv. Of course, it's entirely possible that my measurements are inaccurate. The more I think about it, the more likely...

    ABV vs Attenuation

As a first time brewer, I'm probably way more involved in the process than I should be. I want to measure / smell / taste / poke...my beer. Even with the possibility of contamination or oxidation, I think it's more important to really learn and understand the process than brewing a knock out...
