Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Why couldn't you just run the output hose from the condenser directly out the door, instead of using a bucket?

    Pressure canning starter wort

I plan to. Hot break doesn't hurt my normal brews and I can't imagine it would be an issue from a starter. It should all settle out in the fermenter

    Pressure canning starter wort

Mine boiled as it cooled for quite a while. This is normal. At least I can understand why it would do that (physics) I think your cans look ok to me. Not that I'm an expert or anything. I had a couple look similar. Hardened dme isn't a issue as long as it didn't go moldy or mildew.

    What are you drinking now?

    Cream ale

    Pressure canning starter wort

I thought about canning at 1.040, but I didn't have large enough jars and I wanted to burn up all the dme I had on hand. I may get bigger jars next time.

    Pressure canning starter wort

I plan to dilute to 1.040 ish. I'll need to add about 1.3 quarts which should get me a total volume around 2 liters. (Haha. I mixed imperial and metric measurements in one sentence! Some one reading this is going to have an aneurysm) Dme does make it pretty dark. It should be lighter once I...

    Pressure canning starter wort

Interesting. I was not aware that you could get hot break with dme. Thanks!

    Pressure canning starter wort

I'm going to try shaking the heck out of them once they cool a bit. Maybe that's all just dme that came out of solution? Not all of them were perfectly dissolved before I canned.. but even the ones that were perfectly dissolved in the second batch look like this.. I made especially sure that...

    Pressure canning starter wort

Tl/Dr; does this look ok? Or did I miss up? Ok. I tried canning starter wort today. It seemed like an easy enough proposition. I figured out how much dme and water per jar to let me dilute a single jar to approximately 1.040 as a 2liter starter. So far so good. I ended up with 10 quart jars at...

What I did for beer today

I put approximately 190g lme with about 800ml water. Some better measured than others. At 1.095 I'd need to about 1.3qt to get down to 1.040. I was trying as close as possible to get a 2l starter this gets me pretty close. Had I measured better if be a lot closer. I typically Brew 10g batches...

What I did for beer today

Pressure canned 10 quarts of starter wort. They are all at around 1.095 so I should be able to open top of with distilled water and throw yeast in. Plenty enough for a whole year-ish of brews.

What came in the mail for you today?

Pressure canner and a ton of bottle caps. I was supposed to get 4 cases of 22oz bombers too but apparently boxes of bottles are too heavy for my USPS driver. I'll have to go pick those up tomorrow

    First time jaom!

I can't get over how Crystal clear this is. Do I need to Degas this at all when bottling? I've not taken any gravity samples yet; I'll probably do that just before bottling. I use an easy dense so it doesn't cost me much to sample but the instructions said to leave it alone. about where...

    First time jaom!

The fruit started to fall today. Swmbo said "I thought you were joking when you said you were going to leave that on the counter for 6 months!" :mug:

    Keezer temp control

Lol. Nope. Married with a 5yr old. I had a goal this year to brew 120 gallons. It was a good goal. Unfortunately I completely underestimated my consumption rate and available time. I made it to 70 gallons this year. Don't think I'll have time to do another brew before the new year and I've...
