    Cleanest Ale Yeast

I've actually found wyeast 1007 german ale to be pretty clean, almost lager-like, if you ferment cold, below 60. It does not floc out very well though, so keep that in mind. I made an oktoberfest ale with it, kept it at 59 the whole time and had excellent results.

Dry stout- ready in 2.5 weeks?

Going to visit some friends in a couple weeks and I would like to bring a keg of dry stout with me. It'll be a pretty basic guiness-like dry stout at about 1.045 or 1.050. I usually let most of my beers sit 3 or 4 weeks in primary/secondary before touching them, so i'm unfamiliar with quick...

    Cherry-Burrell "Corny" kegs?

Regular orings seem to fit this one just fine. I was reading around and saw that some people say that the new style round o-rings actually give a better seal on these than the original square o-rings that came with them. It had some pressure in it when I got it and everything appears to be in...

    Cherry-Burrell "Corny" kegs?

I just picked up a corny keg. It's made by cherry-burrell and used to contain Seven Up. It's a ball lock and my hoses fit fine on it. It also has a little indentation at the bottom of the keg where the dip tube hits the bottom. I think it will work fine, just curious if anyone else has one...

    Carboys on Ebay

Its a good deal til you see the shipping... If you can actually get the carboy for $5, you still end up paying over $40, which is about average for a 6.5 gallon carboy. The 7.5 may be worth it though

    $110 for 62 quart (15.5 gallon) pot?

yeah I bought it. Its a great pot. Its pretty big, shorter and wider than a keggle. I think as long as you take care of the pot, the thinner steel won't be an issue. I definitely recommend it if you can get a good price on it. Have done many boils in it already, pretty much zero risk of a...

4 volumes of CO2 in regular beer bottles?

Yeah, my friend has had a few very violent bottle bombs that threw glass all over the kitchen. The best thing to do with potential bottle bombs is to chill them throughly and open them slowly, which I will definitely be doing with these.

4 volumes of CO2 in regular beer bottles?

Sounds good, hopefully none will explode :)

4 volumes of CO2 in regular beer bottles?

I just bottled up a dunkelweizen yesterday. I overestimated how much beer I had and now I've ended up with beer that will have about 4 or 4.1 volumes of CO2 in it. This is not outside of the style guidelines of 3.6 to 4.5, but it is higher than I have ever used. I bottled half of the batch in...

Cloudy in secondary after 3 days.

Just give it time, a couple weeks in secondary and it will clear some, a few months in the bottle and it will be crystal clear (if you can wait that long to drink it :P )

    $110 for 62 quart (15.5 gallon) pot?

I think I am going to go for this. It should be pretty easy to add a bulkhead/valve to this pot at some point in the future too, eh?

    $110 for 62 quart (15.5 gallon) pot?

Someone I know has a pretty nice stainless steel 62 quart pot they want to sell for $110. Its practically brand new. Pretty sure its a Bayou Classic 1060. Is this a decent deal, or is there something better out there (other than a keggle)? I currently boil in a 7.5 gallon aluminum pot that...

    Trois Pistoles Yeast

Wyeast 3864 is what they use, if you can find it. It's part of Wyeast's seasonal "private collection"

More yeast neccessary when using isinglass?

I am going to be bottling a brew that I plan on using isinglass on in the near future. I'm using Wyeast 1007 German Ale on the beer. Will I have to add more yeast to the bottling bucket to get the bottles to carb? If so, how do I go about doing this, and will dry S-04 do the job if i need to?

Where can I get these 750ml bottles?

There are some "Belgian" style 750ml bottles out there that accept caps, rather than corks. Off the top of my head, the only beer I can think of that comes in them is Jolly Pumpkin.

    Cleaning Carboy (inside-film, crud)

Warm water + oxiclean + a few hours = 99% clean carboy. Use a brush to scrub any remaining junk.

    Nottingham Yeast

Brewed up a dry stout last night, pitched nottingham at ~9:30pm, plenty of signs of activity this morning by 8am. Re-hydrated the yeast as the directions say on the packet, then pitched it into ~70 degree wort and put it in my basement which is at 65. The yeast was not refrigerated. It was...

    Black Rye?

Heh, that may be a little over my current setup's capacity... will note that for the future however... In the mean time, something with less than 15 pounds of grain would be good lol

    Black Rye?

Has anyone ever brewed a black rye, something like Founders Black Rye? I've been looking all over the place for some sort of recipe, but I've been unable to find anything.

    What's your dry hopping technique?

Since I rarely use secondaries, I dry hop with pellets directly into the primary at the end of fermentation for ~10 days. Then I put a paint/grain bag over my racking cane and rack it into the bottling bucket to filter out all of the junk.
