    S/S Pot worth the money?

I have been looking for a 20-30 quart SS pot. Anyone have any suggestions on thickness? Also anyone know of a place online that is running a good deal right now?

Moving on up...from beginner to intermediate

Quick question on brew kettle thickness. How thick is a good brew kettle? I have felt some pretty cheap ones and wondered if there are some that are too thin for the prolonged heat exposure.

How long do you keep a batch of star san?

Just saw that the Bell's site also has 5% off your order through the end of the year. I think that has me sold on it. Gives me a few extra dollars to buy the brew pot and the carboy brush that it is missing. Will also probably pick up some star-san for good measure.

So I don't sanitize my brew pot before every batch? Also, I still have to get the water to like 168 before I add ingredients correct? Sorry if these questions are dumb, there is just so much info that I am trying to keep it all straight.

So I do not have to sanitize my boil pot before every brew?

Do you mean just the first time, or everytime I brew a batch. I was under the impression that you have to boil the water to get it to temperature before adding the ingredients to make the wort. I am a newb so I am truly wondering.

I am thinking about buying the starting brew kit from Bell's. I love their beer. Ya I guess I will have to just make the drive up there. Thanks.

Ok, you are right, not the exact kit, but very similar. You are correct that it does not have a kettle, but I calculated that I would spend $230ish for the midwest supplies kit. For the bells kit I will be paying $168 and some change plus a 5 gallon pot (lets call it $50 for a good one)...

quick question for some more experienced brewers. Do you guys strain your wort before putting it into the primary fermenter?

    LHBS in area

Yes I am. I found one in Elkhart but the reviews said it was a wine store first, beer second. Also one just opened called South Bend Brew Werks. Had any experiences with them?

https://bellsbeer.com/store/products/Deluxe-Homebrewing-Gift-Set.html found this awesome deal. way cheaper for the same kit, compared the 2 myself. It also comes with a few other things that the midwest supplies one does not. Shipping is also way cheaper! Ordering this one now!

There may be a thread on this already, but does anyone have a listing of home brew stores in Indiana and Michigan? Looking to try and patch together a start up kit instead of buying one online.

I am also a newb and am thinking about ordering the same kit. My cousin has brewed a few batches and bought his kit in single pieces. He said it was cheaper. Anyhow I look forward to posting in this thread with all my newbie questions. I am really bad at making big purchases and want to make...

For the 5 gallon pot, I am under the impression tat you can make 3 gallons of boiled wort and then add another 2 gallons of water into the primary fermenter. Is that a true statement?

    Field to brew

That is a good idea. And as you said earlier, just experimenting with different time and temps is part of the fun. If I find anything I will be sure to post it on here.

    Field to brew

Consistency from batch to batch or consistency within one batch? I figure that if I grow lets say 50 pounds worth of barley, it all came from the same batch. Why would the consistency be off? I understand your point if it was from a different growing season.
