Looking for an expert...Wayneb you still here?

David41, Yes, the hydrometer thunked to the bottom a month before it stopped fermenting. I had contemplated stopping the fermentation, but thought what the hey, I'll let it go till it decides it is done on it's own. I know I have over 20%, but the hydrometer is the only testing equip I...

Looking for an expert...Wayneb you still here?

I have not been here for a Looooooong time, missed the place and have too many batches bottled and brewing to fit in my sig line :mug: Ok...to my point, on my very first batch of mead, I posted a question here https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f30/first-attempt-mead-109172/ Wayneb and...

Oh yes, the last sg was exactly the same as it was when it was racked the second time. Thanks for the response...

Young mead completely clear - bottle?

Back to my "beautiful disgusting raspberry citrus" batch. (have a thread here somewhere). This has been batch aging in the secondary for nearly three months now. I looked at it last night and it is crystal clear... Is there any benefit to leaving it aging in the carboy as opposed to...

Clover Honey, Molasses W/lime Juice And Cinnamon

Stevenjan, "Obsession" is the correct word! I made my first batch of wine from a kit around the first of the year, then decided to take off the training wheels and make a batch of mead. I am now on my fifth batch of mead....with enough honey and finally an empty primary waiting to create my...

    Beautiful disgusting raspberry batch

I agree with the zest being the overpowering part of the mix...I won't be doing that again!

    Beautiful disgusting raspberry batch

Sorry, been super busy, have not logged on in a while. I used the juice and zest of one lemon, one lime.... I kind of thought it was too much when I was adding it...since I am not a big citrus fan..

    Beautiful disgusting raspberry batch

Careful what you wish for...just might come true! ;) I guess I was just spoiled by my first two mead batches...although one run away batch (abv wise...long story, already posted here) is refusing to give up the fermentation process...but tastes GREAT (well...it has major potential..would not...

    Beautiful disgusting raspberry batch

:p YES! That is a better description of the taste...with a bit of lemon juice added for more nastiness!

    Beautiful disgusting raspberry batch

Thank you all for the input....hopefully it ages out...if not, I will be shipping you all some raspberry citrus mead next year!

    Beautiful disgusting raspberry batch

ok....disgusting is a little harsh, but I hate it none the less. I kind of followed a raspberry citrus batch recipe about a month ago, have racked it twice, fermentation is over...but yuck...the citrus is so strong it over powers the raspberry....it is actually sour. I hate sour. It...

    First attempt at Mead

:ban: THANK YOU FOR THIS INFO!! I was following (sort of) a recipe I found on a mead site...of course I had to switch things around since I can never settle on a freaking recipe... what you have shared is priceless, and I thank you for it! Just got home from road trip (two days) and...

    First attempt at Mead

Claphamsa.... will 750 ml do? :mug: Thank you and Tusch for the remedy! Producing video tonight, no time for mead testing/ racking, or attention sadly.... still perking every 3 seconds in the airlock...wondering if I have produced some super power nitrous consuming, abv lovin...

    First attempt at Mead

I am writing that down wayneb, I will be in Logan three weeks from now, I will look for it!! Thank you for the heads up! Now how do I kill these rocket fuel loving yeasties?:D

    First attempt at Mead

Quick question... Nearly three weeks out, after racking to secondary, this batch has very active airlock activity. I have no idea what the SG is, since the last reading I took 3 days ago, my hydrometer dropped like a rock... This is definitely going to be a DRY batch, possibly rocket...

    First attempt at Mead

Thank you for the insight Gratus (may I call you Gratus?) I too think this will be more than a one year project, BUT I plan on gifting it at Christmas...and I will HAVE to try some before I hand it out.. :mug: I used clover honey. I am looking forward to searching for other honey...

    First attempt at Mead

Thank you for the feedback wayneb! I popped the lid last night and took another reading, came up with 1.110. Appeared to have active fermentation going on (still perking co2 and the existance of foaming on the top of the must). I decided to add some nutrients (approx 1/2 teaspoon DAP)...

Claphamsa, Thanks for the vote of confidence! Glad to know I am not the only one that "guesstimates" :mug:

    First attempt at Mead

Wayneb, One thing I am 100% certain on was the beginning SG, just consulted my notes to double check... actually I was a little surprised at the reading, and I double checked. I checked the reading after I had pitched the yeast and stirred it vigorously for 6 minutes (till my arm fell...

    First attempt at Mead

Thank you Wayneb! after pitching the yeast and stirring till my arm fell off, my beginning SG read at 1.140. I think I will pull the lid tonight and check it's progress, and add nutrients if it falls within the guidelines set out by Hightest. Personally I won't mind if it ends up...
