    Brewing mishap. Thoughts?

That's not ideal but plastic bottle (PET) could be used. I would not aged beer in one or keep them for long but it's fine if you can't get glass bottle.

    Brewing mishap. Thoughts?

Introducing oxygen is bad. And anyway, the infection will takes time to develop so you may not see anything currently. Also, I don't think it can be fixed (at least not by me, I'm not a chemist). I would just wait until I'm ready to bottle (I usually wait 2 weeks) and then check. If you see a...

    Brewing mishap. Thoughts?

If it is an infection, you will clearly see it: mold, stuff floating with strange color, etc. There is a post on this forum with horrible picture if you need example :)

    Brewing mishap. Thoughts?

I have, sometime, a bit of smell but it is usually subtle. I'll let more experienced brewer respond (I still quite new to brewing) but I think you should just let it do its thing and wait. Something I learned around here: time fixes a lot of issue with beer. Wait a couple of days, the smell...

    Brewing mishap. Thoughts?

BIAB is brew in a bag. You put a small nylon bag (you can get one online or at your local shop) in you kettle and add grain. You mash these instead of using an extract. It is cheaper to use grain instead of extract. A bit more complicated but not much to be honest; you are mostly doing a...

Still confused on mashing / sparging, crazy idea maybe...

Hey thanks both of you! My current method is to put the grain bag in a strainer over my wort and put water over the bag. The first liter of water I put over the bag, you can clearly see good stuff coming off (ie, same color as the wort) but after 2L it start being fairly light and "watery". I...

Still confused on mashing / sparging, crazy idea maybe...

Hello everyone, New brewer here using BIAB and doing 1 gallon batch. My first recipe was from a book by Brooklyn BrewShop. The recipe asked to mash the grain with 2.37L of water at 65C (151F) then sparge with 3.79L of water at 77C (170F) after 60 minutes. I don't understand why 2.37L / mash...

    First batch screw up

1 gallon brewer here. I usually keep just a bit more head space than you (let say, 1 cm more). At the end of the fermentation, with the cake and the head space, I usually get 3L to bottle and a sample to taste :)

    Adjusting gravity after adding water

As simple as that! Thanks, it's noted.

    Adjusting gravity after adding water

Hello :) After boiling my wort, cooling it and putting it into my fermenter, I realized I was missing a bit of liquid (probably boiled a bit more than usual, it's only my third beer so I'm still adjusting...) My recipe said it was OK to top with a bit of water, so I did. Before adding water...

Just a couple of beginner questions

Thanks, both of you! I will try to find/make a gasket but in the meantime I have an idea for my lid. I will tape it. :) It's already very tight so I'm kind of curious to see the effect to my airlock with a bit of scotch tape. I'll probably try an hefeweizen for my next batch and at the same...

Just a couple of beginner questions

Hi everyone, New brewer here with only 2 small batch and still patiently waiting to taste both :) Anyway, I made a couple of researches for my next batch but I found so many post and information I kind of feel the need to kindly ask 2-3 questions... So a bit of context/info in case it is...
