Reading that I of remember in how to brew it said higher ph is good for darker beers. I'm just not a stout, Guinness type of beer drinker, I'm all over amber ale. To be honest I need to give them a better try at least.

I cleaned it with water/bleach and an oil school scrub brush so far no smell

Yeah 6.5, I did a yeast starter for it and it fermented vigorously in the first 12 hrs

Thanks for the input! Yeah she was a little mad understandably, I didn't enjoy scrubbing the walls either . I rack it into the secondary Tuesday after that it's the long wait! Maybe I'll do a blond ale ....????.....

So a few days in on the primary for my belgian the fermentation backed up into the air lock and exploded in the closet, my upset wife put the carboy outside without the air lock :( , i got a 1 1/4" vinyl tube and after shaking the yeast back down again put it back in the closet. after a day...

so i got a proper size pot and did a partial mash belgian

american ale (extract kit from oak barrel)

fixed the blow off, it went out of the bottle neck again good thing i but in that type of blowoff

first extract getto brew, didnt have the proper size pot so i put it 2 pots, not glamorous but it did the trick.

Yeah that was a miss type to a send on the iPhone..... So does Anyone know if a used oil drum can be cleaned enough to use for a HLT, mash, and boil kettle? I have access to many but worry about the consumption of oil left behind. Thanks!

Looking to make a herms electric setup from 55 gal drum? Previously used to hold motor oil, can it be cleaned enough to be used for that?
