    Odd taste

I've been following the Mutton's instructions: 4-5 days in the primary (bubbling less than 1 per 2 minutes) about 2+ weeks in the carboy. My first few pints are cloudy, but I expect that. My pilsner was beautifully clear. I'm fermenting at around 70 degrees. I aerate by splashing the wort...

    Odd taste

I'm now brewing my 5th batch (Wheat, Brown, Heather, Pilsner, Barleywine). My friends have mentioned and I have noted a subtle yeasty taste to all the beers so far. Is this a product of homebrewing? Would filtering send it away? Does my process need more patience (am I kegging to quickly)...

    Sweet Beer

How do you aerate your wort? I pour/splash my top-off water and get a nice foam on top that I sprinkle my yeast on. Should I shake/whisk more?

    Sweet Beer

I've brewed 3 batches now (Wheat, Brown Ale, and Heather Ale). All came out with a distinct sweet flavor. Is it the beers or my fermentation process? I'm working on a Pilsner now and hoping for a different result. Also, while I have your attention, all my brews have been very dark, even...

    Carbonation Question

My last batch (Heather Ale) came out tasty, but had a carbonation issue. My friends thought the beer seemed rather flat, so I pushed the CO2 up about 3 psi. Next time the beer didn't seem any more carbonated, but the head was excessive. What gives? Does the brew influence the the bubble...

    CO2 valve question

Yes, I was referring to on top of the cylinder. I read somewhere to only open the valve 1/4 turn to get the CO2 pressure. By backseating, you mean open all the way to the stop, but not force it? Thanks! :mug:

    CO2 valve question

Open 1/4 turn or all the way and why? :mug:

    2 CO2 worries!

I soaped all around the top, posts, and release valve of my keg last night and could find not even a slow leak, yet, I pressure up to 20 psi, and this morning it was below 10. Now, given this is the first week in the keg, so I'm praying that this is the beer absorbing the CO2, but I don't know...

    2 CO2 worries!

I think my regulator is broken. I can't get it to set at a particular pressure; even with the regulator closed, the pressure (somewhat slowly) maxes out. I took it apart and noticed a leak around the central needle-valve. I fear it's busted. Can someone confirm? So now I can't keep...

    Sanitizing question

I clean and sanitize fermenter, carboy, racking cane, tubing, keg, etc. as soon as I'm finished using them, then let them sit and air-dry. Should I sanitize again right before I use the equipment or are we ok? :mug:

    Conditioning question

I'm getting ready to keg some Brown Ale. Direction call for it to condition for 4 weeks (in the fridge). Can I carbonate now, or wait till then end if the 4 weeks for best results. :mug:

    Sediment bubbling up

I'm just brewing my second batch (Brown Ale) and have noticed something new. I'm now on 10+ days after pitching the yeast and am now in my carboy to condition. Most yeast has already settled to the bottom (no more CO2 production). However, I noticed tiny bubbles rising to the surface. Once...

    Rehydrating Yeast

So far, I have had no problem with sprinkling my yeast on top of my ~70 degree wort, right on the fresh wort foam. What's wrong with this picture? Advice please! :mug:

    My first brew

Yep, I have found that the hardest part of brewing is the WAIT! :mug:

    New to Kegging Questions

I just found a small leak in my relief valve on my lid. It slow leaks and then sticks. I guess it's time to replace it (or remove, clean, try again? In other words, is it salvagable or junk?) :mug:

    New to Kegging Questions

First, hi all! I'm glad to join this fine group of beer lovers. I've come home! Now, to questions. I am just polishing off my first keg of homebrew and need some advice before starting number 2. 1) Can I store my CO2 in the fridge? I heard that this could cause overcarbonation. 2)...
