    Purging kegs

Surely if you 3/4 fill the keg with starsan then push that out you begin with only 5L of air instead of 20L ?However looking at doug293cz’s table you could reach that point in just a couple of purges at 15 psi.

    Purging kegs

Don’t know if this is overly complicated but I am thinking .Fill keg 3/4 full with starsan and slosh it about , then attach hops up near lid using magnet.Push starsan out, then flush keg 4 times using Vikeman’s method in #2 .

    Purging kegs

Before doing some extra dry hopping of some beer that was already conditioned I purged a keg recently by connecting it to my co2 bottle at 12psi and pulling the prv for a second or two twenty times.Hop aroma was tremendous , for about 3 days then pretty much disappeared. So ,the obvious culprit...

"Go with the flow" - quite apt !!

Re using yeast from fermented keg

I have read the post, but my keg went dry with no warning, so I had clear beer ,then nothing came out but gas so no way to harvest .

    Wireless Hydrometer Recommendation

I have an ispindel.I like that I have a guide as to how the ferment is going and also a temperature reading. The exact sg reading is not that accurate on mine but I get my og from a conventional hydrometer and I dont feel the need for an exact fg.Mine came ready calibrated , it is possible to...

Re using yeast from fermented keg

Thank you .I have only tried floating dip tube so far .The clear beer just stopped suddenly so I had no way to harvest .Guess I could have thrown some sterile water in and repressurised again .I am kind of thinking that seeing as I have to open the keg and pull out my ispindel and maybe a hop...

Re using yeast from fermented keg

That’s good advice , I think your phrase super pitch is apt ,as I am currently cleaning Krausen out of my gas disconnect to keep my blow off tube working ,which is generally said to be unusual for corny fermenters, especially on a 15 litre (4gallon) batch at 20C ! Btw, How do you tap the residual...

Re using yeast from fermented keg

Just started it off today , I didn`t remove any trub just added the fresh wort straight in, normally this recipe takes 24 hrs to start, this time it was underway in less than an hour .I will post how it turns out ,fingers crossed !

Re using yeast from fermented keg

Thats helpful thanks ,what do you think about the fact that even though I will lift out the dry hop bag, there will be some hop debris probably ?

Re using yeast from fermented keg

I am fermenting and serving from the same corny using a floating dip tube .When you get to the dregs does anyone just throw a fresh batch of wort in on top of all the trub and set off fermenting again ? Are there pitfalls ? I would have to fish my ispindel and dry hop bag out with a serilised...

    Temperature Control during ferment

So here is my ispindel graph from corny keg in 5 gallon bucket with 2 gal of water and fishtank heater. As you can see even during the vigorous start (OG fropped 40 in 36 hrs ) there was no problem with temperature rise and until I cranked it up around day3 it stayed on +/- 0.5c from 20C. A good...

    Temperature Control during ferment

I have only just started fermenting in cornys and serving from the same one .Floating dip tube bypasses the sediment .Dry hop either using magnets ,opening it up and purging ,or transfer to another vessel .

    Temperature Control during ferment

Does pressure fermentation banish the need for temperature control ??

    Temperature Control during ferment

    Temperature Control during ferment

....So a corny holding 3 gal of beer in a 5gal bucket and thus now housing 2 gal of water with an aquarium heater ,and in order to contain the initial temp spike, starting ferment at 20C .Least thats how the plan looks currently !

    Temperature Control during ferment

17-20 is the daily range , yeah I took the 5-10C comment with a pinch of salt .I think someone has suggested maybe 3c but as you say it depends on how fast the yeast takes off .I am using verdant at the moment , at least with my proposed system I have the option to raise the temp to 23 towards...
