    Hop Extract Question?

In case anybody is wondering(or cares), I was able to get 30 - 5ml HopShots out of my 100 gram can of Hop extract. This is $120 dollars worth if you were to buy them individually at Northern Brewer. I spent $21 for the Hop extract and $18 dollars for 100 - 5 ml syringes with caps. So less...

    Favorite "Two Hop" IPA combinations.

I just received a book called "Clone Brews" for Valentine's Day and there is a Ballantine XXX clone in there. Here is the recipe they give: OG: 1.053 IBU: 28 SRM: 4-5 ABV: 5.2% Mash temp: 150 9.33 Maris Otter 10oz crystal 10 1 oz Brewers Gold 60 min 1/8 oz Saaz "flavor" 1/8 oz German Hallertau...

    Hop Extract Question?

Anybody have experience with hop extract or HopShots?

    Favorite "Two Hop" IPA combinations.

My favorite is Citra and Mosiac(as others have mentioned). I also just put a Cascade and Citra on tap, they appear to be play really nice, a little more "dank" flavor than the Citra and Mosiac pairing. Amarillo and Simcoe are a classic pairing that go great together. My next beer will be a...

    Hop Extract Question?

I ordered a 100G can of Hop Extract from Yakima Valley Hops. I plan to split this up into 5 ml syringes and use them as Bittering additions in all my beers. My question is how do Icalculate the IBU's in iBrewmaster. The description says: "One milliliter yields around 10 IBUs in 5 gallons of...

A beer style that introduced you to craft beer, and now you can't stand?

Fruit and spice beer. When I first started drinking I would drink Berry Weiss by Leinenkugal and any pumpkin beer I could find. I recently tried a Berry Weiss and OMG, it was horrible! I've found that if I brew a spice or pumpkin beer I never touch them and they sit until either I dump them...

Entering my first competition- need a GREAT IPA idea!

My schedule for a great IPA(in my opinion anyways) has been: 100% Golden Promise 1 oz flavor hop FWH(I've done Cascade, Citra or Mosiac) 1 oz Bitter hop 60 min.(Columbus) 2 oz aroma/flavor hops 10 min.(Mosiac and Citra are an awesome combo) 2 oz aroma hop 5 min.(again, Mosiac and Citra) 2...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Maybe look for a robust Porter recipe or an RIS recipe. By changing any recipe by adding more dark grains or adjuncts you throw off the balance of the beer. This beer is pretty good the way it is.

    The Walking dead

My biggest question about the whole Sam thing is what happened to him yelling "Mom" as soon as they walked out the door like he did at the mid season finale? Wasn't it still sunny out and you could still see the porch when he started yelling "Mom". Then the first episode after the break they...

    Your favorite Pale Ale recipe

Another vote for Lake Walk Pale Ale. The combination of Amarillo and Simcoe is just awesome!

    Lighter Beers Turning Brown

I've heard and experienced oxidation in my hoppy beers make them turn darker. How is the flavor, do you detect any staleing or cardboard flavors?

Turning a Stout into a Bourbon Barrel Stout?

I have a question about this topic, What makes a stout a good stout candidate for an oak and bourbon infusion? Do you want your stout sweeter, dryer, roasty, chocolatey..... What characteristics/profile work best?

    Imperial Stout Fermentation Issues

1.030 is an appropriate final gravity for an RIS, especially with that high of a starting gravity. I just read an article in BYO where they said Dark Lord finishes at 1.070, so even commercial example finish high. This style should be big, heavy and thick. 1.030 shouldn't be too sweet based on...

Looking for a summer lager to brew

Summit makes a nice Czech Pils. That's the only commercial example that I've tried.

Looking for a summer lager to brew

If you like hops try a Czech(or bohemian) Pils. It's s nice crisp lager hopped to about 45 ibu's with all saaz hops. I made one last summer and it was perfect!

Why Don't I Make This More Often?

I would say an American pale ale. It's one of my favorite styles to drink but at the end of the day I either choose to brew a cream ale/blonde or an ipa when I go to brew an American ale. I hardly ever choose a pale ale. Time to plan a good APA to brew, and most important, DRINK!
