    Cooking with your homebrew...

I used a homebrew bourbon RIS in brownies and cupcakes in place of the water. The flavor of the beer really comes through. You pair that with some Irish cream frosting and it's a great desert!

Avoiding oxidation! Need help from Keggers!

They do make thicker walled tubing that should reduce the oxygen transfer. I know I have some thin stuff on one of my taps and that the first couple ounces are always flat if it sits for more than a couple days. My other taps have thicker walls on the lines and never go flat.

    Thermowell in Bucket Lid

I bought one of these. It has two holes, one for a thermowell and one for your airlock. Just drill your airlock hole bigger and put the stopper in there. The plug makes a nice tight seal. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XZJQVDF/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Which beer style for an "Iron Brew"?

I think I would do a sweet stout with the Grape jelly added twice, once at flameout and once in the secondary. The lactose could imitate the frosting of a glazed donut and the grape jelly would give it the fruitiness. Also, a milkshake IPA would be good too. The Vanilla and lactose would make...

    New to kegerator

you may need longer lines too. In my kegerator I have 10 foot lines, keep the beer around 40 degrees and dispense at 12 PSI. That gives me perfect pours.

What to do with a Blonde (beer)

When I did it, I added the cucumbers chopped up just like a dry hop directly in the primary. It worked really well.

What to do with a Blonde (beer)

Try adding 3-4 lbs cucumbers and a 1/2 pound of honey to the secondary. I made a cucumber blonde last year that was awesome!

    Tall Boy vs competition

For a full boil 5 gallon batch I would recommend a 10 gallon pot. I started with a 7.5 gallon pot and it ended up being too small. You figure you need to start with 6.5-7 gallons of wort to end with 5-5.5 gallons at the end of a 60 minute boil. With a smaller pot that doesn't leave much...

    Noob building a coffin keezer

I love this project! It looks beautiful! I would love to have a keezer in my house! Quick question, did you add any vents so that the freezer can breathe? Is there any risk of overheating?

    Peanut Butter Porter recipe

I've made a couple Peanut Butter stouts/porters. Grainbill looks good, I like the lactose in there. I used both Lorann's Oil and Brewer's Best Peanut Butter extract(both 4 oz bottles) and preferred the Lorann's Oil. I never used PB2, personally I don't like the flavor of PB2 when mixing it...

    Pale Ale

The grainbill in this recipe is pretty cheap. It utilizes a chunk of the pale malt that you toast yourself. You could easily substitute Cascade hops to make it cheaper and a more traditional Pale Ale taste. The grainbill used could easily be bought in bulk to reduce the price, along with the...

    Peanut brained

I've gotten the best results from not using peanut butter at all, but peanut butter extract. I use 4 oz of Lorann's Oil Peanut Butter. I also tried Brewer's Best Peanut Butter and it is similar but not as strong. There is another company that makes Peanut Butter extract called Silver Cloud...

Creating a Yeast log/ring for Brett Fermentation

Hi, I watched an episode of "Booze Traveler" where they went to an old farm in Norway and found a brewer who had a "yeast ring" that has been used to save yeast for centuries in this town. Doing a quick Google search brought me to an article that describes the history. I was thinking about...

    Minneapolis Brew Pub?

If you just want a good beer bar with great food The Happy Gnome can't be beat!

    Minneapolis Brew Pub?

Dangerous Man, Insight Brewing and Surly, in that order, is where I'd go. Dangerous Man has a cool vibe and great beer. It it can get super busy. Insight has great beer and a relaxed feel to their tap room. Surly is huge with a really good food menu. The first two always have a food truck...

    Adding fruit

There are sugars in the fruit that need to ferment out before packaging. I think you will need to raise the temp so wake the yeast back up to start fermentation again. I wouldn't worry about an infection, you pasteurized the fruit and there is alcohol in the beer.

Wild Plums: What base recipe should I use?

Hi, just an update. I ended up brewing a Dubbel with 6 lbs of plums and an oz of plum extract in the secondary. It is very plummy, but good! The plums added a nice acidity. My wife said it tasted almost like a sour beer without the twang. If I were to do this again I would choose a different...

Ideas on adding cucumber to a pilsner

The cucumber is very present. You notice it in the aroma and taste. I went with a clean malt and yeast(dry lager yeast) so that the cucumber couldn't hide behind anything else(except for the late galaxy hop addition, which I feel compliments the cucumber).

Ideas on adding cucumber to a pilsner

I am drinking a 100% pilsner malt with a late addition of Galaxy. I added 2.5 lbs of peeled and chopped cucumbers to the primary after fermentation for 3 days. It turned out fantastic! So refreshing if and the galaxy and cucumber give it this fruitiness. It will be my summer beer every year for...
