    New to Philly

Not new to brewing, but new to Philly! Been brewing seriously for the better part of 2 years in upstate NY, but moved down to Philly recently. Looking for some homebrew shop recommendations and maybe a club or whatnot. Or, just suggestions in general (good breweries, restaurants, whatever)...

    Trimming plastic for a kegerator

It looks like the cooling lines are on the back wall of the fridge so you shouldn't have any problem with hitting any lines if you cut off that insulation that's in the way. Even so, it would be pretty dumb on their part to put cooling lines there...

    Trimming plastic for a kegerator

I was in the same boat as you when I was using a mini fridge as a kegerator. I ended up cutting the tray holders out with an oscillating tool. It's just the plastic you see and the foam insulation underneath. As others mentioned, might want to smooth it out after and cover it. I never did...

    First Keg

I've always done 'low and slow' because it's easy and one less thing to worry about. But for me, even though the beers seem to be carbed after a week, they really start hitting their stride after 2+ weeks of conditioning. So I really don't mind waiting for the keg to carb at 11psi. I'd rather...

    Looking for the common flavor

Well, had another beer last night (from a different place) that had that distinct flavor from above. Talked to that brewer and he told me It was 80/20 2-row/pilsner, used nugget as a late addition and dry hop, and used a clean Chico strain. Really the only common thread between all these beers...

    Looking for the common flavor

Last night I went to a local brewery and got an american IPA (with centennial) and a NEIPA (with mosaic). They both tasted different and correct for the style, but there was this aftertaste that was consistent between the two (not a bad thing). I'm terrible at describing what it tastes like...

    EVABarrier Line Balancing

Instead of doing this and measuring air temp, get a jug of water, put it in your keezer, and measure that water temp. It'll be more in line with the keg temps and your compressor won't kick on as much (if it is doing that). If that is in fact what you're doing, I bet your kegs are much warmer...

    Recent AIH troubles

I still wasn't able to get anything ordered online, but called them up and it took the guy about 30 seconds to run my card and place my order. Who knows...

Which yeast for a Pale Ale?

Ha. Those are different months. My bad. US-05 for sure. Mine just keeps getting better and better.

Which yeast for a Pale Ale?

I think the only problem is the OP needs it turned around in a little over a week. I know US-05 can rip through the wort, but i'm not sure if there are other yeasts work with less conditioning time.

Which yeast for a Pale Ale?

I've recently just made an American Pale Ale using US-05 and around 6oz of Cascade. Turned out really well if that's the style you're looking for. Essentially like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Can't say for the other yeasts though. However, it really needed a few weeks to condition to really...

    Recent AIH troubles

I reached out to them. Apparently they updated their system and now if the billing address isn't the EXACT same as on your bank statement (like, Ave to Avenue, or even capital letters), it will kick it back saying it's bad. So maybe that is just my problem. Hoping this can help someone who is...

    Recent AIH troubles

Recently whenever I place an order for anything on homebrewing.org (Adventures In Homebrewing), my orders are always declined, claiming something wrong with the credit card. I've used multiple cards, tried to pay with paypal, used different computers, different networks, buy it as a guest and...

    Collar for Kegerator?

I had to do this for a mini fridge fermentation chamber. The fermenter needed a few extra inches of floorspace, so I took the door off, made a 2x4 frame and mounted it to the fridge with some flat brackets and screws. Also got some magnetic strip tape and put that on the wood to hold the door...

    Keezer Lesson Learned...

I originally contemplated putting both the collar and the lid on hinges, but I couldn't find any that would fit the original screw holes in either the freezer or lid so I held off. Why I didn't just think to leave the lid loose or seal it down with silicone is beyond me... In regards to having...

    Keezer Lesson Learned...

Well, you see, I bought 3" shanks. But the collar is made of 2-by with an 1/8" maple ply on the front. So I would have had to bore a hole in the back so the nut and tail piece could sit correctly. But I didn't wanna do that so I got 4" and that made life better. Until this happened... Could...

    Keezer Lesson Learned...

When planning out your keezer, don't just make sure all the kegs you want to fit in there will fit based on the 'floor plan' of the freezer. Also make sure you'll be able to get them out when the shanks are installed too! I'm able to fit 5 kegs into my 7cf keezer. They're snug, but happy. I...
