    Grain Displacement Question

The Priceless biab calc should have a default displacement of 0.08 gal/lb, and 0.08 gal/lb absorption rate. The only variable that even uses qt/lb as a unit is mash thickness, which the default should either be 0 (meaning full volume mash), or 1.75 qt/lb.

ezRecipe-RO - Brand New Web Based Recipe Designer

Layout is much better this time around screwy. Tested on pixel, and nexus 5x on chrome and firefox, and a responsive website tester.. Doesn't look like the mobile version, or the desktop version is that responsive but limited to two columns, which works fine! Hop absorption should have units...

ezRecipe-RO - Brand New Web Based Recipe Designer

Below is in regards to ezBIAB Hop absorption needs units clarified, is it gallons per oz, fl oz per oz? etc etc Kettle capacity and kettle information looks like it's reversed? The Inches to gallons section isn't exactly clear. When is that wort height for, preboil, postboil? Is it accounting...

Will take a look tomorrow screwy! I'd suggest adding a "guest" account that lets you check it out without loging in.

    BeerJSON (BeerXML 2)

Awesome roma, I'm glad you guys took this up as it was very much needed. Have you posted it on r/homebrewing, and contacted any of the original beerxml contributors or the major software programs (BS,BF, Brewtoad, brewtarget, etc). I'll make some comments when I next have a day off work!

Do you like numbers? Monitor conversion efficiency in the mash

This is a really good method to evaluate your crush. You just have to make sure you stir well before pulling a sample, and should always cool the sample to the reference temp of the hydrometer. By charting the SG, or better the conversion efficiency, then you can tell how well the mash is...

    Getting Frustrated with Beersmith

Small to mid sized breweries will likely use it, or some other software for the recipes and recipe notesheets. However once you get beyond a certain batch size, you'll find the breweries will have their own in-house spreadsheet. Also you have to remember that they don't really do that many...

    Getting Frustrated with Beersmith

Looks like rice hulls are included, but at some weird ratio (~54%). It might be due to differences in hulls grain absorption rate (although I haven't seen any trustworth citations for that). If so, I would be hesitant on how that fudge factor is changing your mash temp calculations. Try...

My OG's are ALWAYS ALWAYS LOW!

Need more information. As @Qhrumphf said, volumes matter. If you're adding water after the boil, you should take the gravity reading, temp measurement, and volume measurement before adding water. Then do some simple math, or use a blending/diluting calculator, and calculate the diluted OG. You...

Pre-mash to increase gravity of Grainfather batch

Sure, it's called "reiterative mashing". You'll need to calculate the volumes, and temps by hand though because there's not currently any software available that will do this for you. Chris Colby has some good information on this method

Most aggressive yeast you know about?

Note that "killer wine" yeasts are only killer to sacc strains. They do not affect brett, other killer wine yeasts, or bacteria. They may or may not affect sacc diastaticus strains like belle saison, not sure on that one.

Whats the real cost of producing craft beer?

Wait, what did I just read? A DIPA, and all those hops, is cheaper than a simple pils? Why is that? Colder fermentation? or are you using some special and expensive pils malt?

    New Brewer from Chicago, IL

CHAOS is a great club, with awesome people. It's a bit costly though, which is because they basically have a brew it on premise place with a bar, and a walk in fermentation chamber / cold room. There's a bunch of clubs in the area depending on where you are specifically. The CHBG (chicago...

    Sparging a 1 gallon BIAB

It's low because small batches tend to get higher efficiency, since you have a higher percentage boil off rate typically. The 15 and 5 minutes get divided by the batch size ratio. The 60 minute addition will need to be adjusted manually until the intended ibus match the original recipe

    Sparging a 1 gallon BIAB

1.43 lbs total. Approximately 1.6 gallons (I assumed 0.5 gallon boil off rate, which is common for small batch brewing). 5 oz C20. 1 lb and 2 oz of pale malt / 2 row. If you have a good mash, and squeeze the bag, you should be around 1.044 at 1 gallon.

    New online software: Brewingday

It's under recipe, add the hop under ingredients in the text field with a placeholder of "search for ingredients here" then you change the usage and boil duration fields. They've got a good app, just wish it was FOSS.

    BIAB mashing in ice chest

The rule of thumb for no sparge is you'll need ~2x the batch size. You will definitely need to sparge with a 7.5G mashtun/kettle, or drop the batch size down to ~3.5-4 gallons for typical beers. Lower for big beers

Help with low efficiency with BIAB

Predicting Efficiencies, and specific gravities. We will have a couple general functions to make our lives easier, which are only necessary for mash steps. After the initial mash is done, and no more grains are undergoing conversion, it’s just a matter of tracking wort volume, and total...

    BrewTarget Issue

Oh I see. Hmm, not that I'm aware of. You might have to copy and paste the file if you still have it, or reinstall. If you don't have it, I can send a blank one if you PM me. Otherwise, you can try posting an issue on their github page https://github.com/Brewtarget/brewtarget/issues
