Low FG when using cooler as mash tun

I'm using this one: I checked it.. in boilling water it reads 96.7C the temperatura that water boils here (at an altitude of 960m (3150ft). When I stick it under my arm it reads 36.7C (98F). I also have a regular one which reads 12F off this one. I also used the same thermometer on my earlier...

Low FG when using cooler as mash tun

Hey all, I always used a cooking pot to do my mashing and was getting good attenuation and good FG. Then I got a 5gal round cooler and started using it as mash tun since I would get a better temp. control. I already did 5 batches using it and all of them ended with FG lower then 1.009 (one...

Super low attenuation with Safale US-05

I had a similar problem, with Nottingham. It turned out that my new thermometer was uncalibrated, reading 5°C less than the actual temp. So I tought to be at 67C but it was really at 72C.

Force carbonate at RT, then chill and serve?

Yes, I have the same question here. I´m new in kegging and never tried it, but I have this doubt. If I carbonate it cool, then let it sit at RT for a day or so (say, to move the keg to a party, beach...) and then cool it again, set the pressure to serve (10 psi aprox.) will it hold the...

How to remove pin lock relief valve?

I´ve tried my socket wrench but it doesn´t fit. The wrench is smaller than the hole. I´ll try to soak it and use a seat wrench. Thanks everyone for the tips, it helped a lot.

How to remove pin lock relief valve?

Hy all, I got a new keg from Cornelius that has this relief valve: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/pressure-relief-valve-pin-lock-kegs.html But I can't figure it out how to remove the piece. In the bottom it has a square hole and everything I tried only seems to damage the plastic...

    Beer Cloudness

Yeah, I think it might be the crush. As for the starch I don´t think I had any since I did an Iodine test and it turned out negative for starch, so maybe it´s just protein. Next batch I´ll do a regular crush and stir during cooling and see what will come out. Thanks for the help.

    Beer Cloudness

Hy all, So a few weeks ago I brewed an all grain ESB and it turned out to be a very cloudy beer. Since my previous batches were clear (except for a little cold haze) I was wondering what could have done this. In this batch I did 3 things different from what I´ve doing: 1) I really fine...

    EKG and Fuggle?

Humm, fuggle and EKG call for a bitter (extra or special) or maybe an English Pale Ale, or an IPA.

Dry yeast - How expired is too expired?

Yeah, me too. Last week I used a packet of WB-06 that expired on 03 2010, and it´s turning out great. But it was only 4 months expired, not a whole year

    Is my beer dead??

Hy all. Sorry for the repeating subject, but I can use a little help. Last sunday I made my first batch. A Pale Ale kit (all grain) that I bought from my supplier. My OG was 1.048 which seems good. On monday morning, about 12h after yeast pitching the airlock was bubbling very good. It...
