Oh No!! I Think I Waited To Long!!!

Hey Y'all I've had a brew in the secondary since oh..........before Christmas. I am going to bottle tonight, but there are these little white "things" floating on top and sticking to the side of the carboy (at the top of the beer level). Are these little white things a problem. Since it...

    How Long??

I've had a batch in the carboy for almost a month now. With work and Christmas I just haven't got around to bottling it. It is still airlocked and looks very clear. I haven't openned it since I racked it over. Should it still be okay to bottle? I don't want to open it and check the...

    Sanitizers

I've used something called "chloro-clean". Kinda of a pink Kool-aid colour. Requires rinsing. I've also purchased a one step (can't remember the name) "Oxy - something"

    Never Again!!!!

I recently brewed my first batch and it went very well.....................the more I've let it sit the better it has become. I have 11 left. The problem is that I'm running out of brew before the next batch is ready to bottle. STUPID!!! I should of started the second batch right after I...

Oh my god, I hate the auto-siphon, any other suggestions??

I know we Keep talking about oxygen and how is ruins the beer, but someone, a few threads ago now, mention that they didn't have all these fancy gadgets 500 years ago. Wooden buckets, dump it into jars...........away they went..............Lets not overthink things. Ha, can't believe I just...

    Just Transferred

So I just got home from work and checked the batch in the carboy and it bubbling every 5 seconds again....WOOHOO! Now I'm wondering.....WHEN DOES A PERSON TRANSFER TO THE SECONDARY? Is it after the Krausen has dropped, is it after the fermentation has completely ceased..........Opinions...

    Just Transferred

I just transferred my batch from primary to secondary and the bubbling rate has dropped from 4-5 seconds to pretty much zero. There was a foam on the surface of the carboy during the transfer and I think there may of been an airleak somewhere in the shipon. Do I have a problem or am I just...

    Hot or Cold

When adding priming sugar in bulk prior to the bottling: (correct me if I'm wrong) I should boil 3/4 cup into 1 cup of water of dextrose (or whatever) Now shoudl I let the solution cool before I add it or add it hot. I would think that hot solution would be evil on the little...

    from primary to secondry

Althougth I havent' been doing this long I would partly agree. The only reason I would stick with the shipion is that you will be able to control the depth where you transfer from. I would think it would be better to have a bit less beer than a bit more sediment.

    Nitrogen for stout

Now I know you guys are all crazy, because if we used liquid nitrogen the minute it touch any thing...The Thing (whatever it happens to be)........would shatter. Hence the old Liquid nitrogen and the flower thing..........Liquid Nitrogen is -321 Degrees F. Not a chance Guiness is putting that...

Go to third or go bottling?

Buy the bucket....... As my Father once said to me "Son, there's only two options....She'll either get over it........or she won't"

    Nitrogen for stout

I've been thinking about trying a stout type beer in over the next while. I've noticed in the forums that nitrogen is used instead of Co2. If i'm going to bottle.....are there nitrogen tabs or something to use. Thanks,

    Aluminum

Since we're talking about aluminum, I always wondered if anyone have ever canned beer. The beer companies do it, so we know it can be done. I always thought that would be pretty cool. Anyway, just wasting my time here at...

    bottling advice...

I use and auto-shipon and the wand. The check valve at the base of the wand is invaluable.

    Sugar Tabs

Recently I bottles my first batch and when priming I put sugar in each bottle. While this was time comsuming I wanted to try it this way first. The process worked fine and my beer after 2-3 weeks, is nicely carbonated. I've read about you guys priming directly in the carboy or a bottling...

    More sugar next time????

Hey Y'all After 15 days of waiting I opened another beer today to see how things were progressing. Taste is fine, but I was hoping for more carbonation. I'm I expecting to much. I completed my priming on an individual bottle basis, instead of adding a sugar mix to the secondary prior...

    Disastrous newbie siphoning session

Hey, i'm new to this myself, so i how i can help... The wand goes to the supply, and the tube goes to teh source container. The first time I did it, had a difficult time getting a flow, but eventually got it. The major thing is to have your target container quite a bit below your source, as...

    Sanitizing Techniques

I'm still really new at this, but i purchased a spray bottle and spray my santizer inside the bottle about 15 times (after clean and rinsing of course) and then, wearing disposalble latex gloves...oohh latex), I swish it around covering all surfaces. I was doing sets of six at a times during my...
