why can't we use twist off bottles?

Before I collected all of my pop-top bottles I used the twisted off type. Normally in a batch I would lose 1 or 2 due to a bad seal. Not to bad of a ratio from 60 or so. A lot of people here will say "DON'T DO IT", Why there not "ALL" crazy, I believe everone feels more sercure with the...

    Picnic Taps

From what I've read on this forum......... It sound like the line is to wide in diameter. people keep mentioning a 3/16" line which is 4.7 mm inside diameter......... There is something to so with line and flow resistance..........Anyway, give that a try and change the line from the keg...

    secondary vs bottle

Let my last batch sit in the secondary for 10 weeks. It's been and excellent beer and very clear and I had no problems with carbonation. When I bottled it I left it for about 2 weeks and every bottle has been great!! IGOR

Did I botch-up my first batch?

I always wonder about this boiling thing when using a can of extract. The instruction don't say to boil the can, they just mention if you want you can heat the can in boil water to loosen up the contents of the can. Yes you should added boiled water but only up to about 4.5 litres, then fill...

    New shiny toys..

Just a thought!! But i'm wondering if you mean the black handles are cracked (which isn't a big deal) as opposed to the actual flip top opening. Just wondering!! IGOR

Transferring CO2 one tank to another

I still think this is a bad idea and I would recommend that you NOT attempted it. If you want the CO2 that bad take it to a shop that can do it, but I wouldn't do it at home. CO2 is not that expesive! IMO you're just asking for trouble if you try this yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has any one used the beer gun for bottling?

You should check in the Product Review section of the forum. One guys did a review on the beer gun and was quite satisfied with it.

Transferring CO2 one tank to another

I wouldn't even attempt this!! All you going to do is create a missle propelled by CO2 instead of rocket fuel. Did everybody foroget there WHMIS course!!!!!!!

    The Plastic Primary

Hey Y'all, I was wondering who among you uses a carboy for a primary instead of the "white plastic bucket". My work involves some travel and sometimes for extended periods, and those periods are usually a surprise. So I was thinking about having the brew in the carboy with an airlock...

    use of guinness bottles??

#1 "I've just invented the six pack!" #2 "BRILLANT!, what does it do?" #1 "It's allows you take six beer with you at one time." #2 "Six beers at one time......BRILLANT" (starts to drink all six beer) #1 "Wait, you know I've been thinking! It may not be a good idea to drink six beer at one...

Diacetyl rest for an ale - redundant?

I agree with that!! I left my last brew in the secondary for about 6 weeks. It was more of lack of time than good brewing skills, but the brew is most excellent!!

    use of guinness bottles??

I guess as long as they are sanatized well, in theory it may work....It will be interesting to hear your results. I have a bucket of them sitting in my workshop and if I can use them...GREAT!! When do you think you will be stouting again??

    use of guinness bottles??

I've got around 100 guniess bottles. They are awsome, and getting the label off is a breeze. As for the widget (for lack of a better term), just turn the bottle upside down give it a hard shake down and try to lock the widget into the neck of the bottle, then take some needle nose...

    Great bottles

I use these as well........I've got just about 100 of them and they are just a nice bottle to look at. And since the label is skrink wrapped you can cut it off instead of washing. I'm not a stout drinker, but a buddy of mine is so he was nice enough to switch from the cans to the bottles...

    Balls vs. Pins

Well........I'm gonna be ignorant for a minute and pretend I don't know anything....... Anyway, is it possible to change a pin lock Plug to a ball lock plug. I only have the pin lock so I haven't measured the size of the screw on. I'm I just crazy, I have no problem with the pin lock, since...

    Balls vs. Pins

This really isn't a poll, just a discussion. Does anyone feel like either ball or pin connectinons are going to dissappear. Just wondering how the market is, or are both types still safe to go with? Also, is it possible to change one to the other by bolting on a new connection to the...

Couple newbie questions about siphoning and moving beer from primary to secondary

I've been using water directly from the tap. Our city has a really great water supply, and I have not had any troubles. I work in the environmental industry and deal with water treatment as a consultant for the city and have great faith that the water is good. As for the...

    Yeast(?) on bottom of bottles?

I've completed the priming method both ways and have notice the same buildup on the bottom of the bottles with both. So it's not sugar sinking, it's just a by product of the carbonation process. The most recent batch I completed, I had to bottle prime due to and unfortunate combination of...

    Capping Your Beer

It's funny you mention dipping your hands in the sanatizer. I borrowed a box of vinyl gloves..yes borrowed, that will do....anyway, I always wear vinyl disposalble gloves when working with my brew at anytime. You never know where your hands have been. I also wash my caps in no-rinse and use...
