    kegerator newbie

search here or google corn starch test. basically you make a paste and spread it on the fridge. the heat of the coolant lines will melt the paste (or something?) and you can see where the lines are.

Cloning HopHands by Tired Hands Brewing Company

Thanks for the replies. When I took a sample after the cold crash (prior to dry hopping) it actually looked fine in the hydro jar. Cloudy, bright yellow/orange like it should be. The color of beer in the fermenter always throws me off. I can never predict what it will actually look like in a...

    perlick 525 o-rings

Don't know if this is of any use anymore, but I think these are the part numbers. https://www.perlick.com/store/webcatalog2.php?catno=1&sectno=1&grpno=3 The problem I'm having is finding a place that will ship it for a reasonable rate. Gotta check with my LHBS and hopefully they have them. I...

Cloning HopHands by Tired Hands Brewing Company

What are people's thoughts on cold crashing this beer or fining it? Mine was done fermenting yesterday and in the PET bottle it was a bright, hazy off-yellow color. Much like the real thing. Last night I decided to cold crash it down to 50 to hopefully compact the trub. This morning I checked...

I want to try a HILLSTEAD FARM beer

Philly bars recently started getting a very limited amount. For the recent Philly Beer Week there were probably 5 bars that had HF on tap. Doesn't help someone in SC very much, though.

How to remove kegerator shank from tower?

Actually, I'm going back on this... maybe. If you hold the nut and turn the tap, wouldn't it also turn the metal elbow and beer lines? There isn't enough room inside the tap tower for that stuff to turn very far.

How to remove kegerator shank from tower?

Yeah, but I'd still have the same problem. It's super hard to get a good enough grip on them without the right tool. Some people said they were able to do it, but not without a lot of cursing and bloody knuckles - which is the path I was going down before ordering the wrench.

How to remove kegerator shank from tower?

Thanks for the reply. I don't have calipers and I haven't used a compass since like 7th grade. I ended up buying this instead: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OHMHL7M/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 It doesn't specifically say the sizes, but the picture is a dual sided tool which...

How to remove kegerator shank from tower?

Digging this thread up again in the hopes that someone sees it, but how the hell do you know what size the nuts are before buying the wrench and testing it out? I got mine on Craigslist (thus necessitating a disassembly and cleaning) but I have no clue if they're 1 inch or 1 1/16 inches.

    BIAB and Oatmeal

Just so I understand this... you're saying you cook the oats as if you were making a bowl of oatmeal? And then dump the oatmeal into the mash?

    BIAB and Oatmeal

I did use whirlfloc. Maybe I should not since I don't intend for this one to be clear at all.

    BIAB and Oatmeal

Are there any special considerations when using oatmeal in a BIAB brew? I recently brewed a hoppy pale ale with oats (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=463439) and I feel like the oats did not convert in the mash or something. The grain bill was 85% 2-row and 15% flaked oats. I...

    Philadelphia, PA Water Profiles

I've only done 3 all grain batches and I've used the same water for all of them (Philly water from the Baxter plant treated with campden). I haven't filtered it because I only have a Brita and it would take forever to filter that much water. I don't have PH testing equipment so it could be...

    Philadelphia, PA Water Profiles

Sorry to drudge up an old thread, but I'm in Philly on the Baxter plant as well. For those of you brewing hoppy beer, what do you do to the water? I've been using part of a crushed campden tablet, but my hoppy beers have been lacking significant hop flavor. Once I tried adding some gypsum...

Cloning HopHands by Tired Hands Brewing Company

I brewed this on 5/2 and just tried a bottle yesterday. I think I screwed something up with the oats because mine is much more clear than it should be. I did BIAB with 11 lb 2-row and 2 lb flaked oats (85/15 ratio). I realize now I should have used pale ale malt, but I can't imagine that...

i think i stressed my yeast...oh what to do!!

What was your procedure for adding priming sugar? I know it's a basic question, but gotta start at square 1 to diagnose the problem. If it fermented out from a proper OG to FG, then you must have had working yeast in there. If you gave them the right amount of sugar to bottle carb, it should...

    Alternatives to wort chiller

It's fine, but it will be cloudy. Just google "no chill homebrewing" or something like that and you'll find a million threads on it.

Yeast pitch rate: Single vial vs. Yeast starter | exbeeriment results!

I would love to see responses from white labs, wyeast, etc. as to why they say a single vial/packet is fine. This experiment indicates they are correct, yet many people are still hesitant to believe (personally I'll continue to make starters). I know these yeast companies test many strains...

How cloudy should homebrew be (or not be)?

Is this your first batch? Like Iseneye said, there will inevitably be sediment from the bottle carbonating process. No way to avoid it. If you chill the bottle in the fridge for at least a day (but it can help to go several days) it should all settle to the bottom. Then be careful not to knock...

Not Sure My Brew Is Fermenting

I'm sure it was on tight, but that doesn't mean it won't still let gas escape. There's a difference between it being attached securely (which you had) and it having a perfect air-tight seal (which you didn't have). Often times it's hard/impossible to achieve an air-tight seal, especially with...
