Is it the "best beer in the world"?

If you want to buy a whole crate you would have to buy a car as well, because they demand a registration plate number when you pre order a crate :D Or try to persuade the rental company to give you the registration plate number of the car (and hold that car so it's available whenever you get...

    Warning signs of homebrew addiction

When you get angry seeing people using coolers to keep food cool. THEY ARE NOT MEANT FOR THAT. When you don't make a gingerbread house for Christmas anymore. Instead you make a gingerbread Blichmann Top Tier brewing system.

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Whats your experience regarding time in fermentor? The original post says 2 weeks, then bottle or keg. Has anyone experienced any pros or cons with leaving it in the primary fermentor for more than two weeks?

What not to do with beer glassware?

The question was what NOT to do. Not what to do :D Do you have any other things that you should avoid, except the ones I mentioned in the first post? The plan is to try all the things that you are not supposed to do, and do a side by side comparison on head retention.

What not to do with beer glassware?

Because of the rinse aid in the dish washer, or for some other reason?

What not to do with beer glassware?

I'm thinking about doing an experiment about glass care and head retention. I guess you have all heard about different things that you absolutely shouldn't do with your beer glasses, because it spoils the head retention of the beer that you later put in it. Here are some from the top of my...

    Star San

If you don't like the foam, switch to saniclean instead. It's more or less the same thing but without the foam. Even though the foam is not dangerous or harmful in any way, I find it a bit messy. Especially when filling bottles or kegs.

    Filling up "dead space"

I will look into that! ---- What do you think will happen if i pour boiling water on capped empty beer bottles? Some kind of implosion/explosion extravaganza?

    Bubbles on top of cider

OK, thanks for the feedback. It was just cheap store bought apple juice + a little bit of apple juice concentrate (og 1.046) I think i will bottle it this weekend..

    Filling up "dead space"

There are lots of coolers here as well, but the standard size is about 24 liters (~6 gallons). I want a bigger one, and still haven't found any cheap big ones. But I will get to that as soon as my brewing wallet allows it :) But for now, the bucket in bucket will have to do. Good idea...

    Filling up "dead space"

A new mash tun based on a cooler is on my to do list. But I haven't found a cooler that's big enough that doesn't cost a fortune yet.

    Filling up "dead space"

But getting it all out wasn't my problem..

    Bubbles on top of cider

Many people say that it's important to let the apple wine sit in the fermenter for a long time.. Is 4 weeks enough? I know it will be getting better over time, but could this time be spent in the bottles instead of in the fermentor?

    Filling up "dead space"

I will be on the look out for marbles then. Another idea i got was to use empty (caped) beer bottles. Maybe a couple of beer bottles to fill the bulk of the space and then some marbles to fill the rest. Would empty and caped glass bottles handle the heat from boiling water you think? I'm...

    Star San V Iodaphor

I switched from iodophor to star san (or saniclean) a couple of months ago. For me they both work perfect. The only difference I have noticed is that star san doesn't stain, doesn't smell and doesn't need to be rinsed of. So, why use iodophor?

    Filling up "dead space"

Thanks for your responses, I get what you are getting at. And I to think that marbles would be a great solution. But the thing is.. I haven't done the math, but if I would to fill up half a gallon with marbles I would need more or less a billion marbles. It would be expensive to buy as well...

    Bubbles on top of cider

OK, I hope so. There is no film on the top or anything other that looks like any infection I have ever seen before. Should I wait and see if the bubbles disappears before i rack to bottling bucket, or can I do that now? Assuming that the gravity readings tell me that it's done fermenting.

Did I kill my yeast with StarSan?

OK, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

Did I kill my yeast with StarSan?

I dont get this.. How can star san be used as a sanitizer, and at the same time work as a yeast energiser? I mean, if i have some unwanted yeast cells in my carboy, and I star san the carboy. Will that make the yeast grow? I thougt the point was to kill it :D Maybe it has something to do...
