    Water filter query

The plastic should go away after runnung water through it but i think i had one in my water filter that was way worse. Swapped brand and no plastic even ftom thr start. All filters reccomend you run water through them a bit. I wouldnt use one for beer if running water through it tastes...

Almost ready for run on DIY Herms system.

I measured all the losses but then found i ended up swapping hoses round but still close enough. Measure all your losses under false bottoms, in plate chillers etc. I went through the beersmith profile creation after my trial wet run and after gathering all the data for that my first all grain...

Maximum psi needed for co2 regulator

It looks like it should work given it is high preassure in 2000psi. They claim easier adjustment due to low preassure but that sounds like marketing bs. I went with a more common 60PSI regulator to give me more margin with secondary regulators. I'm up to 3 secondary regulators now. One gets...

A question about making wort to use for starter

I use dme for conveniance. Only boil long enough to ensure its sanitised. I would definitly do a tiny biab in a hop sock or similar if i needed wort for a starter and was out of dme. As to collecting wort from the previous brew it makes sense but i haven't done it yet due to lazyness, dme is...

    Question about my Co2 regulator?

The cylinder I rent is labeled not to get grease or oil on the valve outlet. I guess its probably because they are rented out as food grade CO2 cylinders. I doubt co2 reacts with oil and grease etc but i wouldn't want to do it with say oxygen etc. I guess too much of the wrong types of oiles...

    Condition & Crush Night Before

Unless you are doing huge batches crushing grain is not a slow down to the brew day. I do it while the HLT comes up to mash temp which is fairly quick. Like day_trippr suggests I wouldnt want any chance of enhanced lacto on the grain as it could mess with mash ph and maybe tend towards sour...

    Stainless steel bottle filler

A while ago I brought one of these stainless bottle fillers through aliexpress.com and I'm pretty happy with it. I did take me about a year to get to use it as it arrived as i started kegging but when I used it for my belgium tripel it worked well. I had plastic ones drop their friction fit...

Brand New Controller Failure (Popping Noises)

Ok on the brought it. Sucks to have a failure on a purchased solution. Pity they dont give you a circuit diagram because there is nothing proprietary in this. Oops i ment ssr but scrs or triacs can be used but nothing there looks like it has wireing capable of the high currents. The twin 63A...

Since no SCR's visible are you driving the contactors directly off the PIDs?

Flow control faucet doesn't fit on shank

Yep a difference between shanks. I have a cheap flow control tap that only fits on one shank as it has a bit hanging out the back but my intertap flow control fits most of my shanks. I can't remember but i think it still needed a small recess in the front of the shank that one shank i have...

    is yeast too old?

I would try making a starter with it and see if it takes off.

    What are you drinking now?

One of my 9.5% belgian tripels. Opened it doing a recording for a grain to glass video for youtube. Now I just need to edit it but not now as I haven't had dinner yet and its king of intoxicating LOL

    MM3 vs MM2Pro mill

The worry over damaging the husks seems a little over blown as BIAB folks turn theirs to dust. I can get pretty reasonably undamaged husks on two rollers and yeah 3 may be better but I doubt I could taste the difference in the beers I do.

    Buying a freezer or refrigerator

I went with a Fisher and Paykel active smart I had from when I upgraded the kitchen fridge. This thing is a top freezer and since its computer controlled (made around 2000) and only cools the freezer then transfers cold to the fridge as necessary with a fan and it works well as I hooked in the...

    What are you drinking now?

Drinking a glass of my porter I brewed the other week, Its still carbonating but its come out good, could have used a touch more dark malt but maybe that got lost in my grain spill loading the mill hopper. Not bad for a 4.5% beer. Has a slight sweetness to it which is quite good, I'm thinkinh...

Trouble with lme mid brew... worth it to continue?

Just remember if you decide to make a smaller batch cut back on the hops so its not over bitter

Trouble with lme mid brew... worth it to continue?

Unless you can replace that malt with some other fermentables then it will be lower ABV and if you huse sugar it will eb a bit thin. maybe use less water and make a smaller batch

Trouble with lme mid brew... worth it to continue?

Have you warmed up the package by soaking it in boiling water with the lid open or cracked? That should soften it enough to get it out

What I did for beer today

Checked on last nights brew, bubbling along slowly snf holding temp at 20C+/- 0.2 It is US-05 and my last few brews have been S-04 and a M33 so much more aggressive start than the US-05 but its up and going. The batch will be dry hopped once the fermentation is over with more Motueka hops. A...
