The other thing to think about is placment of the ports on the bk and hlt as those are the two with more ports and having them close together could make things a bit tight space wise but could be managed of you choose the port locations carefully.

It probably supplied lots of nucleation points releasing disolved CO2. I don't use finings but i would think you would wait until the fermentation is over otherwise they could drop out yeast too early

You might loose a bit more heat through longer hoses if you recirculate but it should be consistant enough you can compensate.

I have never worked on a tap tower butI would think a step drill in a variable speed drill would do it. I have used step drills in electrical panels and some holes in my stainless pots but always with a variable speed battery drill so slow and controlled.
