    Hoppier Dogfish 60 recipe thoughts

Just took a test out of the bucket, and I am very happy with my recipe. The OG was 1.062 and the FG is down to 1.009, but I'm gunna give it another week to make sure. I was skeptical about not using any crystal malt - since 99% of Dogfish 60 clones call for some - but it turned out very...

    Hoppier Dogfish 60 recipe thoughts

All brewed up! I decided to stick to my original grain bill (no crystal malt) and mash nice and low @ around 148. Even though Yooper says that only mashing 3.75 lbs. of grains isn't as affected by temperature, it makes me feel better to have some "control" over the final product :) Actually...

    Hoppier Dogfish 60 recipe thoughts

I tossed this together and I'm pretty excited about it. I brewed a 60 min. clone a little while ago, and while it didn't come as close to the real deal as I would have liked, I would have liked it a little hoppier. The only question I have is what temperature you would mash at. I want my...

HOP BLOSSOM COMP in VA - who want's to send in a beer?

Same here. I was hoping that my IIPA would place, but I used a hop I didn't have any experience with, so I'm looking forward to hearing what the judges have to say. My Oak Aged Barleywine was, admittedly, still young - but It was still pretty tasty to me. I'm excited to improve on this one.

    Tao's Hard Lemonade Experiences

I don't know how she'll turn out, but she's bubbling away nicely! I cut the % down a bit (the original recipe calls for 10%), so with an OG of 1.050, should come out to around 6.5%

HOP BLOSSOM COMP in VA - who want's to send in a beer?

Congrats all around! This was my second year entering this competition. I swear...SWEAR that I'll place one of these years. Haha! Any chance those beers that placed have their recipes posted? Just curious :)

High ABV brew, How long until...

This is your chance to have an excuse to buy more carboys/buckets. DON'T WAIST IT! Haha. I have never brewed a Belgium strong, but anything at 10% or higher would benefit from some extra bucket-action....I would say at least 2 months, or even 3 - and then bottle condition up to 6 months. I...

    Tao's Hard Lemonade Experiences

http://www.mayacreek.org/2012/taos-hard-lemonade-cider/ I am planning to cook this up this weekend, and wanted to know if anyone has done it before. Looks mighty tasty, but I'm thinking about dropping the abv's a little bit. I'm planning on taking it to a music festival in July, and...

High ABV brew, How long until...

I had a barleywine that was still dropping gravity points after 2 months. I started about the same as you - 1.110 - and after bumping the temp. from 68 to 72, it went from 1.021 to 1.019. While I've never used your type of yeast, I wouldn't be in a hurry to bump up the temp. I think you'll...

I've never known what the awards are for any competition I've entered.

    First Beer, Feedback?

I would leave the beers at room temp. for a couple weeks. The yeast won't work at fridge-temperatures, so it won't carbonate in the fridge. Glad to hear you enjoy it! BREW ON!

HOP BLOSSOM COMP in VA - who want's to send in a beer?

You should be fine. I just put mine in the mail yesterday, and they said it'd be there by Thursday...but I guess it depends where your shipping from.

HOP BLOSSOM COMP in VA - who want's to send in a beer?

I believe the JUNE dates are accidental leftovers from last years competition. I just think they didn't update the entire website, but I'm not sure. With the comp. being on May 30th, I'd imagine that the results will be up within a few days after that. The judges notes may not come for a...

I agree with the Session IPA idea. It's summertime, and it just feels right. Haha. What was your OG/FG again?

I guess they only accept PayPal payments - no checks. Kinda bummed out. I like being stuck in my ways.
