    Where to go in Boston

As a resident, I would remiss if I didn't mention a tour through Harpoon and Sam Adams breweries. If your by Fenway, go to Boston Beer Works. Other than that, I agree with the others, Sunset, Lord Hobo are great places. If you want the oldest bars in America, they are right along the freedoms...

Anyone have any good ideas for a flavor addition in my Autumn Amber Ale? I am thinking in terms of spices, herbs, etc.

    Pine IPA help

So I am going for an American IPA with good pine/wood aroma and flavor. Would love to get some opinions regarding the hops in this recipe. If anything, I was considering switching the Northern Brewer for Perle(same amount). With that said, would my current recipe give me the taste and smell I...

    off flavors in dark beers

Had the same issue with my pale ale and blonde ale. And rebrewed without tap- again solved the problem. Hope it is as much of an easy fix for you!

    off flavors in dark beers

Two beers- a nut brown and an Irish stout. They had a bite to them... When I rebrewed and used bottled water the bite was gone and the brews turned out to be crowd favorites. In fact, my father had both and thought they were two totally different beers even though it was the same recipe.

    off flavors in dark beers

Despite the water report in your area, tap water is a main source of off flavors. I had the exact same issue with my tap water and my beers. Since switching to bottled water, the off flavors are gone. I made the same beer with different water sources and the tap water was considerably worse...

    Ingredient Storage Clarification

Hi guys, Just ordered two extract kits and plan on doing 1 a week after I get ingredients and another about a month later. I just want to make sure I have a proper understanding of storage for all ingredients used. So here it goes: 1week storage: Hops(freezer) LME(cool dry area) crushed...

Irish Moss & Late Addition conflict

Thanks guys- I'm not a perfectionist who wants the beer to be as clear as the pros, I just hate the hazy crap that looks like a swamp

Irish Moss & Late Addition conflict

Late addition is for hops utilization and color preference. Putting it all in preboil will throw it all off

Irish Moss & Late Addition conflict

So I am doing extract boils(partials for now) and was wondering if adding irish moss(or Super moss HB) at 15min, before a late addition of LME at 5min, will affect the clarity of the finished product the way it has before? Will everything still drop to the bottom of the carboy and make the beer...

    IBU calculation help

Hi everyone, I am trying to remake a Long Trail Pale Ale. I plugged my recipe into Hopville, and got everything spot on with some tinkering(using the same recipe they use) and can't seem to get the IBU's to 35, like Long Trail does. malt & fermentables % LB OZ MALT OR FERMENTABLE 52% 4 6...

    "Peanut Butter Porter"

Steep the grains first in a bag- as you would with any brew. I am going to assume the 12.2 lbs of light is LME. If there is no specification, I would use liquid over dry...but that is just me being lazy

    Yeast help

Anyone use White Labs English Ale 002 lately? I pitched it 12 hrs ago and i understand that it is very highly flocculent. Thus, I believe most of the yeast has settled to the bottom. So, I gave the bucket a little swirl to agitate it. Should I have kept the airlock on, or taken it off(which I...
